My 348 is now 2 years old. Delighted with the boat but the water from the fresh water tank has an odor. I assume it's time for a cleaning of the system. The process looks cumbersome when I search online. Does anyone here have any advice on how I would do this? Are there any additives that people like to use? Many thanks.

You can possibly reduce this with cleaning. My routine is to use sterilising solution (eg for Baby Bottles) and soak overnight then flush out with fresh but despite doing this at the end of every season and leaving the tanks dry and aires over the winter I still have a slight plasticky smell to the water.
Some people routinely dose their water but I haven’t wanted to do this
Same routine & issue on my last boat that had a lovely stainless steel tank, but obviously with plastic pipes. That boat had a charcoal filter before the galley pump too |

To help remove odours, I have fitted a jabasco water filter on my 341. It is mounted on front of the partition between the galley cupboards and the starboard saloon locker. The outlet to it was the original pipe from the galley cold tap and a new piece of pipe connects it to the original T fitting.
I may some photos later.

We have an online filter on our filling hose so all water going into the tank is filtered.
We also have a 5 micron charcoal filter on the pressurised outlet from the tank. I drain tank completely dry over winter and clean it out. We have never had any odour.

Hi, we just had the same problem on our 3 year old 388. It turned out to be a problem coming from the warmwater tank, after the boat was not in use for some weeks, combined with very warm temperatures. Perhaps try if the odor is stiil there, if you use 100% cold water. Our water was fine like this. Then we kept using warmwater only until the smell was gone. Maybe that helps... Good luck!

One teaspoon of bleach for every 6 gallons of water is safe to drink.
At the beginning of each season I double that when I refill the tank. Run a bit of water, both hot and cold to make sure it gets into all the lines from each outlet. I then sail the boat a bit to agitate. Then I drain most of the tank, at least 2/3 of it. I then refill and have been good to go. Has worked for the past 20 years.
