Hi, I took the cables off the battery terminals before removing the battery, then re-routed the cables for the new position. But I would do it the same way even if I was just replacing the battery on the original location, hard enough to get in and out without bits hanging off if.
I am not an electrician, so I just replaced the wires I disconnected! There is one smaller wire that activates the automatic battery switch, but other than that just two big cables.
Something to do with busbars!

Hi Paul,
Firstly for clarification of others who may review this report, my battery is installed up high over back of Volvo D2 55 motor. Sea Rambler was launched in May 2014 but I would suggest the battery would be 2013 model given build and assembly time of a Hanse.

The battery is original and has been maintained via either shore power or motor and or solar power.Volvo recommend at least 88 AH in the service manual and the replacement I used is rated at 95AH.

Ended up unscrewing the blower fan and after draining the coolant to containers I lifted my coolant tank out of the way and then watching my son and grandson remove the facing board and slowly inched the battery forward until they could get a small 13 mm spanner over the battery lugs- very tight as you said but once loosened they were able to lift battery down onto a blanket I had placed on top of motor -the coolant cap had been removed once all the coolant had sufficiently drained previously from the tank.

It was very simple for me as I watched but definitely a 2 person job with strength in hands and arms- the original battery model type is not sold in Australia by Varta but in my Google searches it is readily available elsewhere. I contacted the company and they recommended their G14 identical in size and slightly more CCA.

Reinstallation was a reverse of above however it was very challenging for my son to tighten the lugs and could have been assisted with smaller length spanner with sides filed down- yep I had one but it was at home - I would suggest that it would be essential to have one for removal and instal in future.

Hope this helps others

Hi, glad you got it sorted out! Sounds a lot more complicated on the bigger engine, I only had to take the front lip off the shelf.
All the best
