Dear All
Gale Force is now on the hard stand with a standing rigging replacement and a Yanmar 110hp re-engine. Upon inspection of the bow thruster I see what seems to be oil coming from the gear leg part that the prop shaft exits from.I am told that it will be an oil seal. The fluid is not exiting from the prop shaft it self but coming out in the vicinity there of However where and how would one change or top up oil in this part. There is no mention anywhere that I can find of bleed screws or the like or indeed any servicing to be done on this part. Best regards to all Duncan

![]() See above. There is a drain and fill screw on the forward face at bottom (63). Also, the shaft housing can be pulled by removing the three screws on the rim. I haven’t had to replace, but I’m guessing the seal can be removed from the inside.I’m not sure the Quick is supplying parts for the BTR250 anymore, but aftermarket parts are common.

As Jon from S/V Lyn posted elsewhere, 123bearings.com may be a good source.

The bow will be the
BTR250, where apparently parts are easy to get in Europe. Quick technical support, even if they can't help you get the direct spares, can offer the specifications for seals/bearings/keyways that you may be able to find more easily. I didn't have trouble in the lower area of the thruster, so I don't know those part
number equivalents -- sorry. Fortunately, there wasn't a motor trouble in my case. At the top of the flange, Leon's suggestion of adding a weep groove is yet another very good idea from him. It will give you an alert of a seal problem before it may sacrifice your motor. As long as you are servicing the lower end of the thruster, I would suggest that you service the top seals since you need to get hauled out to replace those. The actual replacement just takes minutes and the parts are cheap. The shopping list is at the bottom of this page. https://myhanse.com/bowthruster-not-thrusting_topic14610_page4.html |
