I’ve owned my 370 for 19 years and every year since getting it I’ve intended to find a neat solution to providing privacy coverings for the 3 port lights in the main saloon area and the one in the heads. It’s never been a big urgency as my boat lives on a mooring in a private area of Strangford Lough. The only times I require some form of covering is when I venture into a marina on my travels. I’ve not gone with curtains, even though there is a curtain rail fitted, as I don’t like the way they would hang down away from the port lights or if tucked behind the grab rail could look a mess. I’ve tried getting roller blinds, but can only get them custom made and when I try to do this the firms that claim they make custom sized ones have been a nightmare to get any information from. It’s the same issue in the heads with the added problem of what ever is fitted must also be waterproof and mould resistant.

If anyone has found a good neat solution I’d be very interested to hear what they’ve done and if possible see a few photos.

Many thanks in advance
Simon

I have used the curtain rail with an elastic band at the bottom side. (Only in the saloon).
I did not produce the curtains, my wife did. I only mounted them.

Hi Kjeld, that looks like a good solution for curtains. Would you have a bit more detail on how you are using the elastic band, as I can’t make them out in the photo. Are they laced through the bottom of the curtain and then attached to hooks / studs on the inside of the grab rail?

Thanks

Hi Simon
A white ø 2mm elastic string sewn into a channel along the bottom, and two small screws on the backside of the grab rail (or tie the string arond the fibreglass studs). For easy handling the elastic string has to be more than the double lenght of the curtain, but try different lenghts and see what works for you. Look closely, there is another curtain in the pantry.
The forward/aft cabins and head have no curtains on my boat, but if you want to pay for it, they are available in marine shops. If you want a cheaper solution, a clip-on screen is possible in the head. I had one planned, but it is still on the to-do list.
For privacy, you can mount self-adhesive matte foil which still allows the light to pass.
Cheers
:Kjeld

I've just addressed exactly the same issue.  We had sliding curtains but didn't really get on with them so we looked around at the recent Southampton Boat show.  We bought a full set of pleated blinds for quite reasonable prices which I'll fit before next season. Kjeld's solution may well be exactly what you want but if you want to look a bit wider have a look at: www.improducts.co.uk/product/seashade-pleated-s2-grey ;

Thanks Kjeld and Iain, when I’m down at the boat in the next couple of days I’ll look at your solutions and work out what I’m going to do. I going to get something sorted before I’ve owned the boat 20 years. It’s amazing how some jobs are put on the long list and never quite manage to be done.

When I’ve decided I’ll let you know the outcome.

Thanks for the input
