Furling line clutch placement

   Hi, my current furling line setup includes a block with a cam attached to the foot of the pushpin stanchion, then cross to the winch. However, it is difficult to release the cam when the line is under tension.
I'd like to fit a clutch to the deck in front of the block close to the toe rail along the length of the line. However, accessing the underside of the deck at this point to bolt the clutch from underneath is difficult and will involve cutting into the cabin wall.

Has anyone fitted a clutch in a similar position? If so, how did you do this - bolts or maybe screws?

	I fitted additional pad eyes and the yard at Greifswald advised just to use longish bolts into the fibreglass. There is no alloy plate in this area. Used for my spinnaker blocks on a 385 and currently for my furling line on my 458.

	So, the pad eyes take the spinnaker sheet load with only four blind bolts into the deck, without a backing plate?

	A quick update on this modification. Whilst having the old teak deck replaced with Flexiteek, I went ahead and had a 12mm thick fibreglass pad large enough for the base of a clutch added to the deck inline with the run of the furling line forward of the pushpit next to the toe rail. As access underneath the deck is difficult, I attached a Spinlock clutch to the deck and pad using 6mm stainless screws, that went into a combined depth of fibreglass of 24mm (assuming the deck is about 12mm thick at this point. The resulting set-up feels secure and as the force is at 90 degrees to the screws I am confident the clutch will hold in all but the most extreme conditions.
