Can any of you 312 (or other) owners give me some feedback on your keels?

I have just seen the one on my new boat and there is quite a visible gap (3 or 4mm) between the top of the leading edge of the keel and the hull. The dealer is suggesting that it is normal, due to their different shapes, and that it can just be filled with sealant. Have any of you noticed this on your boats?

I have never noticed this on any other yacht. I always assumed that they were a pretty good fit (they should be!) and had solid filler to fair the joint. One would hope that they wouldn't move relative to each other in the normal course of events.

Any feedback would be very welcome.

Hi,

the top-edge of the keel is rounded. It seems that there is an edge but that's just at the visible edge. I filled that up with sikaflex. That's flexible so there will be no leeks to the iron of the keel and than no rust.

Don't worry about that! Your dealer should check the bolts that's all.

Regards Thomas.

My boat is coming out at the end of November, and I will look closely with interest, and let you know what I find

Hi,
I took a photo from my keel. As you can see there is a quite wide rubber corner. But it seems to work (no rust)

I never did get to see how our hull/keel joint was finally faired as the boat was launched a few hours before I asked for a picture to be taken. I guess we'll find out when we lift for the Yanmar 1st service. I'll have to try and be there for that.

Until then, if anyone has any reports or photos of their keel attachment I would still be interested to hear about them or see them.

Regards,
Andrew
