Hello out there

I see a lot of discussion about different sails on this forum now. Therefore, I will join this dicussion by showing you the newest/latest development.
Below you will see a type of down-wind kite. The first time used by Oracle in Auckland in 2002. The idea is to use the faster moving wind higher up.

In our club, we have been working very hard to perfect this new technique. We are still working hard - but I think we will manage it given a little more time.

Hello Geir,

It looks you people try it with spinakers. I could not see it very well on the pictures. Or are that also kites? And how big in m2 is a kite?

I do not have that experience. Looks like fun to me.

Sometime ago there was an article from sailing with a kite in a Dutch watersportmagazine called 'zeilen'. It will give the boat less heal and more speed as a normal spinaker. And you almost have a good wind in the sail because it is standing so high. But there were also besides the many++++ some --- You could not sail the kite that high (70 degrees+). And you must practice a lot to sail very well. In the USA some fancy brands of motoryachts gives their customers a kitesail to come home in the case of engineproblems.(smart thinking) But I do not believe these kites are for sale on a large scale yet?? or...

Maybe in a few years everybody wants a kite.

Greetings,

Martijn "NO FEAR"

Sorry, Martijn.
It was meant as a joke. And yes, those are spinnakers after some heavy broaches.

Yes but it seems that when the kites are more and more develloped(read: better ) It really has the future according that article. So you picked a very good subject.

On the pics it looks that the spinaker takes the boat backwards. Looks because you could not see it very well. I think you will not do that with a new spinaker?!

greetings,
