    Posted: 28 September 2015 at 11:56
Hello  again

The external rubber seals between the glass and metal surround in the 4 windows (fixed) that bring light into the cabin are perished, dry and crumbling, This is basically the same for all windows, although some are worse than others. Internal seals are OK.

The symptoms that led me to look closer are the following:

1) A grey staining externally for the water run-off from each window. It is cleanable, but is a very stubborn. Seems like alloy/aluminium oxide of some sort - but not sure.

2) Internally, I get the occasional residue directly below each window, that looks like lime/calcium build up. There is no visible drip or water path - only a small residue left on the cabin seats below the windows. There is no concern on water ingress - yet.

I assume 1 and 2 are related - but I could be jumping to conclusions.

Question: Where do I get replacement seals and is it a simple DIY job ?

Thanks

Graeme

Obviously my post was voted "driest" of the forum 2015.....so I thought I'd give it another go with pics.

.....discarding my previous ramble, is there a common problem with Hanse 301 cabin windows ?

Thanks

Graeme

Attached are a) the gritty residue from 3 of 4 windows (if you are interested in stains) and b) a closeup of the exterior seals.

Hmmm. Mine are starting to get a bit of the grey exterior staining, but nowhere near as bad and none of the gritty stuff. No problems as of yet (so no advice either) but will be interested in any advice you do get as I will need it too eventually!

BTW - it started about 2 years back with an out-of-place, single drip. Just a dark spot the size of a 5p on the blue cushion.  A few years later and they are all failing  - which makes sense as they are made of the same sh*t materials.

I'll post my internet findings for full-on replacements or maybe repair kits.

Could be as simple as - unscrew - clean up - apply ring of marine grade gunge - screw back

I haul my boat in Oct and relaunch in April. Part of my winter prep is to clean and liberally lubricate all the rubber gaskets on the portholes and hatches.  I do that again before spring launch. My gaskets remain soft, pliable and leak free.

apologies for a thread reboot but I’m interested if you ever got anywhere with this Graeme or anybody else? My windows are still not leaking (yet) but the exterior ‘grey stuff’ now looks about as bad as the photos in this thread and I am brginning to think they will need re-bedding soon.

Anybody done it with the 301?
