Hi Happy New Year
I have order a new 575 to be delivery in late February 2014. Need some advise as I will be sailing this boat in Indonesia water where good diesel is difficult to get so I intend to install a extra fuel tank in the sail locker. Have ask the dealer to do it from the factory but was told they can't do it any advise on where can I get one and had it install. I will be visiting the factory soon to have a look at the boat then to the boat show. any advise will be appreciate.

Ray,
We have Hull number H575 065 on order which is almost complete but we will not pick it up until June 2014. We ordered the vessel with a 300 litre additional fuel tank in the forepeak. This was a custom design by Hanse for our vessel. Your dealer may be correct in saying that there is not an option but the yard can fit this additional tankage as long as you have not opted for crew cabin in the forepeak. The additional tank has a separate fill point on the foredeck and fuel is transferred to the "standard" tank by a dedicated electric transfer pump. The price quoted for this additional tankage was high but that was be expected. Your other option is to fit a fuel bladder custom made to fit the shape of the forepeak space. The bladders can be fitted with a dedicated 12 or 24v DC fuel transfer pump, hose and handpiece. These are available from companies like Flexitank Australia (www.flexitank.com.au). They have standard size tanks or can custom make a tank to your requirements. It is a good idea to fit additional fuel tankage. Good luck with your new boat.

I fully agree with you about doubtful diesel quality ( also common in Northern Africa ). The best option would be a day tank ( transparent 50 ltr polyethylene tank ) with a solid filter battery. Have a look at www.vetus.com. In this case you would pump from the main tank through the filter system into the day tank, ensuring that your engine will only consume ok fuel. There are also systems with a feed back allowing you to clean the diesel through the filters. I assume that you have a small filter at hand when filling the main tank anyhow.
The idea of a collapsible bladder is imho not a good one. They have a tendency to leak sooner or later. A solid second tank is a good option , in combination with a day tank you would then have two independent sources.

Hi Wayne
Thank mine hull is 91. Is it too late now to ask the factory for the extra now, will be at the factory next Monday. Will prefer to extra tank to be done by he factory rather then to order one and get it done elsewhere. Regards Raymond

Hi Frank
Thank for the information your suggestion of day thank sound ok if I can't do it from the factory. I have 2pc of 200 lt collapsible tank from my previous but I don't think it is good and I totaly agree with you that it will leak. Regards Raymond

Hi Raymond,
I have no idea what the regulations are for your area but the previous owner of my boat converted the holding tank to a spare fuel tank as he could not stand the smell. Could be a cheap and fairly simple solution?

Apart from the obvious pollution problem without a holding tank, I don't think the current holding tanks fitted by Hanse would be much use for fuel - they only hold around 35L!

Using the holding tank as a fuel tank will not work as the volume is too small and also the marina in Singapore would no allow a direct discharge.

imho the wall thickness of the 32 ltr Polythene holding tank is way to thin for diesel, unless you like the odor of the fuel smell in the toilet section.
Ohhh, Isn't there a perfume which is called "Diesel" in the US? Wonder if anybody from us would buy it
