Topic: Reef 2 rope lengthPosted: 26 January 2023 at 10:00 |

Hi, I need to replace the reef 2 control line that comes from the leech of the mainsail down to the cockpit. The owners guide suggests that this is 39m long, but I think they are allowing for the luff reef line as well. Does anyone know the correct length?
Thanks in advance All the best Paul

I used the length from the guide. It may be a bit long, but not tremendously. But ultimately if it's too long then why not replace the luff part as well with the extra? |

Hi Paul,
I've just measured my 415 2nd Reef leech line, 33 metres. I have a few provisions regarding this information. I purchased H415 Raggy Doll just over 2 months ago. At that time the sails had already been bagged and the excess reef control line was pulled back to the rope locker. So, I cannot tell you how much tail was available with the line rigged, but I have no reason to believe it was short. I have not yet stepped the mast, much less rigged the running rigging or sails. I'm due to launch on the 6th March, if you can wait that long, I could confirm. |

Hi, thanks for the replies, the reason for asking was I had 24m of rope available. I pulled this through this morning and it turns out to be 2m longer than the factory fitted length of 22m
All the best Paul

Please note that the reef line lengths depend on how the reefing points are set in your main sail.
I had issues the 2nd reef not being enough for 13m/s or stronger winds, so when I ordered a new main sail I had the 2nd reef to be higher in the main sail ... 50 cm higher requires 2m longer reefing line.

Hi Pekka
Yes, that was why I had to replace that line, our 2nd reef was about 20 cms higher than the original sail so I needed another metre of length. All the best Paul
