Starter Motor malfunction

   As I was anchored in front of the marina where my boat was to spend the winter in dry dock I could not start the engine. I had the regular two beeps when I pressed the Start/Stop button indicating that everything is fine but the engine would just not start. To cut the long story it turned out that the engine electronics  was giving the starter motor information to start even after the engine has started and who knows for how long that has been going on and the mitor was extremly hot when it was taken out. The brushes and the anchor inside the starter motor were completely wasted.
I am wondering if anyone  has experienced something similar?
