Loving our new 345 so far and there are some really nice design details including putting the outlet of the engine room fan at the foot of the helmsman. Great way to keep your feet warm.
But there are some very basic things that seem lacking. One was a good storage place for the vertical hatch board. It does indeed seem to just fit on top of the sliding board with some very thin protection in between. But a proper solution from Hanse would have been nice. Another one is the lack of some bungee to keep the lids of the cockpit lockers open. Have others added these? Or perhaps another solution? Per recommendation from the dealer I'm also going to make a wooden board that fits in the opening in the port locker to separate it from the huge inside locker and create some form of shelve instead. If you do need to get into the big locker you can take the board out. Some other good modifications to consider?

I am using a system of coloured bungee cords on my 345:
a) Blue to keep blocks upright b) Red to keep locker lids open ( 1 short at bow, 2 loner ones for cockpit lockers. 2 shor ones for sheet lockers aft ) c) Black for hanging mooring lines I have converted the port locker by adding teak rails around the opening. This allows storing of winch handles , the instrument covers etc. In the port locker I have added a rack with drawers, which I can reach from the shower. In the starboard locker I added a longitudinal divider to avoid the bathing ladder getting entangled in other stuff. I still think that the ladder should be permanently attached on/in the bathing platform as on Dufour/Bavaria. Edited by Fendant - 27 January 2015 at 00:31 |

hey Fendant, would you care to share some pics of your setup?
How/where did you attach the locker lid bungees? We're storing 2 fenders in the starboard locker. The remaining 2 fenders go in the anchor locker. We have not found a good place for the bathing platform ladder yet. It's currently still wrapped in bubble wrap in a sail bag deep down in the port locker...

Hi Bigcat, will do. Currently the boat is on hard stand, well wrapped and covered by 1/2 m of snow.
Hope to unwrap ist mid April. Assume you have a single aft cabin Version as well. The bathing ladder should fit into the starboard locker ( there is only one config pssible to make it fit ). I keep all the fenders in the port locker, the hanging lines are attached to hooks mounted at the guard rail along the opening. rgds

hi Frank, yes we have the 2 cabin (1 cabin aft) version.
We're in California so sailing year round. I'm sure I'll be back on the boat this coming weekend. We did also consider hanging the fenders in the port locker. I'll check if/how the swim ladder would fit in the starboard locker.

hi Jabiru,
the engine cabinet has a circulation fan and the air exits through a duct that is at the feet of the starboard helmsman.

I think that the fan is great in early spring or autumn for keeping the helmsman's feet warm, when under engine
