Hello everyone.  I have a brand new 2017 Hanse 315, with B&G Vulcan V7 and autopilot.  It was working fine until recently, when I started to get a "Rudder response failure" alarm, and then it just doesn't work anymore.  I tried resetting and recommissioning, but I'm still getting the same message.  Any idea what causes this?

No one responded, but I figured it out finally.  Under the cockpit locker, there is a fuse, which in this case was burned out.  Such as simple thing can really throw you off.

why oh why do they do this.

This type of situation of “the hidden fuse” really annoys me with boat builders and electrical installers. In my opinion, all fuses should be in one place – the fuse/switch board. If not possible then they should be out in the open and labelled. I further believe that no fuse on board a boat should be of the mechanical type – all fuses should be the electrical resettable type.

Thanks to this forum, after I lost autopilot functionality last weekend with "No rudder response" message I was able to find this topic, then find the blown fuse inside port cockpit locker.  Really appreciate posted update with solution, saved me a huge headache!!

Just had this issue heading out on.a 250Nm passage.  Luckily we were still within data range when we got the error and I found this topic to resolve the issue.
Fuse is 10A.  Autopilot was working fine on last passage.
Anyone have any ideas why the fuse blows and if 10A is correct rating?
We are now heading back out to sea to try again.

It happens  to me... twice
It was  twice a drive failure due to water ingress  in  the housing.  Clutch and "pancake" motor rust and die.
Unless you  are  able to change the motor  yourself, send the drive back to JEFA, Copenhagen, Denmark.  For 5-600 EUR they will send it back to you fixed as new.
BUT if  you put it back as it was it will fail again !!!
You have to put a cover (a small plastic one is great) over the cable glands (where they enter the  housing), glue it and fill this cover with 2 parts liquid silicon

On both my boats the autopilot computer has been located in the port cockpit locker, on the rear bulkhead.  You need to get your head right inside with a head-torch to find the fuse which is a standard 10A blade fuse in an inline holder.  Once you know where to look it's easier to find.
The fuse blows when the pilot cannot adjust the steering in the required way, usually due to an obstruction or crew inadvertently manually steering against the pilot.  Mine blows once or twice a season, but only one occasion was difficult to explain.
I think you should keep it at 10A.  0n one occasion I got my hand stuck between the spokes and the instrument pod (trying to entya waypoint with my hand through the wheel - lesson learnt) and I was grateful that the fuse blew before my wrist or fingers broke!
