This past Saturday Legacy raced in the South Haven YC Invitational.  This regatta consists of, generally, 3 races, with spin boats running a W/L course and JaM boats a triangle course.  I generally sail JaM when the alternative is a short W/L course which is dominated by the J's and similar boats. There were 6 boats in the JaM fleet. The first race was delayed an hour when the wind disappeared.  We finally started with about 3K true.  Not enough for Legacy (a 370e) to be competitive.  In spite of the low wind speed we sailed a good race and came in 2nd.  The wind picked up to 4K for the next race but we were 3rd behind a 30 footer and and S2 7.9 who corrected over us by 1 second!  Unfortunately, just as the wind filled in the time limit for races expired so there was no 3rd race. Since we had a 2nd and 3rd, and the S2 had a 3rd and a 2nd, we were tied.  Under the US Racing Rules of Sailing the tie is broken by whoever wins the last race.  So, we were 3rd in the Regatta by 1 second. We race in another Regatta next Saturday.  Stay tuned.

Great work. I love to see somedesciption of the race and competition as you have done.

I used to have an S2 9.1 called Bobo de Los Bobos. Very hard to beat in light to moderate winds. The rating was 132 just a little slower than my Hanse at 128. The Hanse is much faster in 12 knots or more, but below that the S2 is tough competition, faster than a J/30. I hear the 7.9 is fast too.

YOU ARE RIGHT.  THE S2 9.1 and the S2 7.9 are both great PHRF racers and can be sailed easily to their numbers. We have a 9.1 in our spin fleet and 2 7.9s in our JAM fleet. These were all manufactured in Holland, MI, just 40 miles north of my home port of South Haven, MI.
