My Facnor SD165 genoa furler is sometimes stopping half way in/out. When it happens I pull back some times, and suddenly it works fine. I can’t find the route cause. Any one who recognise the issue?
Found that the upper swivel was not smooth when put under tension. Now what to do? Edited by PALM - 16 July 2018 at 16:27 |

We were having some issues, and I learned a few things. First, take down the jib and lubricate both the top piece and the lower unit. Use the correct type of grease. Second, make sure the jib is not so slack at the top that it can wrap around the halyard. If it is tight, and the top and bottom components are lubed, then it should work well. I had a rigger help me with all of this and he basically said that there are only so many components and you just need to make sure they are all greased and the halyard is not wrapping on itself.

I had problems with the jib wrapping itself around the Facnor, not because the line was too slack, but because the foc from North Sails was 15 centimetres too short. The solution was to place a 15 cm wire at the bottom of the sail. My 150% genua from North also is too short, and needs the same wire extension. (If the line in the top of the sail is too long, it wraps around the Facnor, even when tight). Regarding grease and Facnor, the bearings are made of (this section edited) stainless steel - the SD brochure tells " two stainless steel bearings ensure smooth and maintenence free operation". Grease will possibly damage the system, so you should ask a professional (or the manufacturer) before applying it. My Facnor is with TORLON bearings, which only needs fresh water for rinsing.
