I agree with tobo2. I had the same problem develop on my headsail swivel. Same one.  The cause turned out to be the stainless shackle provided by the rigging company in Greifswald. I discovered this when my rig was down this winter. The headsail foil was damaged from rubbing against the shackle when I furled and unfurled. It had chafed the dyneema on the swivel as well.  The halyard angle was correct however. It’s just that the shackle is too bulky and too close to the swivel and foil. I’ll be using a dyneema loop to move the shackle higher and away from the foil.

Dear Leon, thanks for your infos. If you could add some pics of the damage on the tube and loop, I would appreciate it very much. The After Sales manager in Greifswald was asked by Selden about pics when I told him about my issue. I think in the future it is much better to use these soft shackles as it seems to be a systematic issue on all sizes of riggs.
Best regards Thomas

We finally replaced the shackel with a Dyneema loop on the reacher swivel. Let's if this helps. The riggers wasn't happy with this decision, but apparently there are different views on this subject. (This is not the final position, it's taken when the sail was down)

Worth keeping a close watch on that set up. Still looks vulnerable to chafe.

I thought I would post this picture of my 304S jib furler attachment after 1 season (3,500Nm) use.
As you can see the dyneema loops have chafed.  Do others consider this "normal" wear and tear or is this not something you would expect?

Do Selden sell replacement loops or will I need to get one made up? [Edit: Selden part number  613-052-20R but no idea where to get one].

You can also see how the furling swivel has been attached to the halyard using a dyneema strop tied in a rather fancy knot.  I'm not sure I can replicate the knot myself so plan to use a soft shackle when rigging next season.  Is this acceptable?

[Edit 2: Inspiration Marine have done a sterling job of support here (yet again) and after consulting with riggers on Hugo Boss (such illustrious company!) they determined that their replacement of the metal shackle with a dyneema lashing is causing the chafe.  The (black) dyneema used in the lashing is harder / more abrasive than the grey loops so this has caused chafe.  Replacements with compatible materials are to be supplied under warranty.]

I would / I use  a Halyard knot to reattach the top swivel - this has two benefits. You can cut it off every so often removing the failure point at the loop, it keeps the strop away from chaffing against  the foil.

We had the same problem on our new 508 after one season but only on the reacher halyard as the angle/clearance to the mast was not large enough. After having changed the metal shackle with a Dyneema typ and one season of hard sailing (Brittany, Atlantic coast) everything looked fine. The After Sales dep. of Hanse sent me a tech. note of the Furlex manual you may have to study. uploads/4558/Genua_Swivel_595-542-E-page_52.pdf
