Hi all,

I was reading about the MyHanse safety cloud and noticed that there isn’t much on this forum discussing that system. I was curious if anyone had experience with this system vs 3rd party connectivity options like Yachtrouter?

My main interest is monitoring boat sensors and power system health remotely as well as connect IP camera. This all seems possible with Yachtrouter with lower cost, but maybe the Safety Cloud has more features such as control capabilities? I have the Yachtrouter micro and was considering purchasing the additional network extender in order to connect to the Hanse computer and add IP camera.

Im very interested in hearing how folks are staying connected on and to their Hanse!

Hi

All those gadgets/sensors use alot of power.
Otherwise you would have to use shore power all the time. Eating away on exposed metal or your boat might catch fire and spread to other boats because your not aboard.

I have until last year used a RTU GSM Hydro/Temperature/Voltage device to remotely monitor the boat health.
It is very cheap on Aliexpress.(Hanse Cloud wants 1000 euro for a smoke alarmDead)
Now I don't use anything because nothing is then using power at all and there is no need to charge the batteries...

On my to-do list is building a ESP32 sensor using the harbour wifi to report home. The ESP32 has deep sleep function so it's power drain is 10µA to 0.15mA sleeping and about 250mA when transmitting.

Love the RTU w/GSM idea as well as the arduino idea. Thanks for your perspective. And good points regarding the risk of leaving items powered when away.

OK, I am working on this at present.

In the UK I now have a IP camera working on demand inside the boat at the marina and communicating with a 4G network and it all operates for £5 a month on the EE network. I can turn the camera on using Ewelink and it stays on for about 3 minutes. I can see the AC charger is on, and can view temp and humidity.

Diagram shows how it is all done. Seems low on milli-amp usage, but just to be really cautious at present I have it plugged into the engine batteries as we just replaced the house batteries and I do not want to risk them.

The second stage is to install the Victron monitoring kit, and this is currently working perfectly in the garden shed. The new SmartShunt seems really good on bluetooth, and with the Victron Color Control GX, I can see this working on the internet. With the Ewelink (internet switch) I can turn the Color Control on or off remotely. GPS gives location and the solar production is recorded too. Should be useful both on the boat and off it. Certainly keeping me amused at present. I can give more details if anyone wants to develop.

Hi,

We bought our Hanse with a Yachtrouter system fitted. Our experience wasn't good. The antenna had been installed low in the cockpit within a few centimetres of the pushpit corner post where the signal was frequently low and the coaxial cable was long. We had better results from a domestic desktop Zyxel LTE3302 box using internal antennas! Also tried external antennas on Zytel box but generally high gain antennas are directional which does not work well at anchor.

I noted the Yachtrouter used modules made my MikroTik in Lithuainia so I just bought a MikroTik unit directly, one designed to be mounted outside buildings. We cable-tie to the shrouds when in port or at anchor then stow for passage. It works so well, we have lived with this arrangement. Even with no signals on our mobile phones, this thing magics signal from somewhere!

Plan to install in waterproof enclosure at the second spreader over Easter. As the radio modem is mounted directly to the antenna with no long coaxial cables, signal is not lost in cables. The unit is a little tricky to set-up as there is little in the way of wizards or similar to get you going. Also need to make sure the model you buy covers your region.

We use an unlimited 4g data SIM which costs £20 per month.

For monitoring, we use a Victron Cerbo.

For CCTV, NEOS SmartCam (idential to Wyse Smartcam?).

Cheers.
