I woyuld like to carry an inflatable dingy on deck when cruising.  I would like to carry it aft of the mast and in front of the dodger.

Can anyone tell me the max size I can carry there?

Or

The measurement from the mast to the traveler?

TIA

We have a 240 pro adventure Alu rib(39kg) from https://www.svb24.com/en/category/dinghies-rigid-inflatable-boats.html

This is on our 370 placed between the sprayhood and the mast.
It is absolutte max size. It is almost as high as the sprayhood and on a reach I angle the rib a bit or the mainsheet will rub on the side of the rib.
I will fix this issue by adding a block more to the sheetsystem.
I have changed the sheet mount on the roof to look like the new boats by removing the small traveler.

We carry a 15hp 2-stroke (35kg) on the aft guardrail. We also use electric winch and the main haleyard to hoist both the rib and engine.
The rib goes 22knots and my son can pull a tube with other kids. 2 adults and it will not.
We also have a 3.3hp 2-stroke (12kg) when the younger crew is not onboard

Btw. The mounts on the dingy for the oars is extruding on top of the tubes.
This will probably scratch or brake any solar-panel installed in front of the sprayhood.
On our old 311 I had a Solar-panel at that location, but because we all-ways have the dingy along then I don't want the Solar-panel on this boat

I use a 100watt fold-able Solar-panel instead, that I place in between the lacy-jack lines. When not in use it lays flat and nicely on top of my cabinet in the forward cabin.

I don't think there's too much of size difference between the 400 and 370 there.  When coastal cruising my 2.7m inflatable fits easily in that space without interfering with any system or line of sight. I slightly deflate it to make it easier to lash down but it wouldn't block out any solar panel on the garage.  I have a decent quality panel fitted forward of the mast anyway.

Thank you all

I was thinking of carrying the dingy fore & aft not athwartships.  I would get an inflatable keel not a hard bottom.

The partial deflation is a great idea.

We are on a smaller yacht, but we carry a 2.4m inflatable on the forward deck and it does not interfere with the self tacker jib.  We hoist it on and off with the spinnaker halyard.

Nice picture, Martin; show's there's always several solutions to any problem.  Carl: if not on the foredeck then why not athwartships aft the mast?  Mine lashes nicely to the handholds and doesn't interfere with the side decks at all. A few trucker's hitches keeps it very secure yet its quickly released and lowered over the side.
