Some leaking fittings (cracked) at the top of the port tank.
The center island comes out with about 10 screws holding it to the floor (star bit TX30) and a few Phillips head screws hold down the seating area. Less than an hour to gain access. Pumped out about a gallon from the tank sump. |

yikes! How did you detect this? Was it the smell of fuel in the boat?

I had recently opened the inspection hatches on both tanks and polished the fuel, emptied both tanks, and cleaned the tank bottom with a rag. After five years, these fuel tanks had a fair amount of diesel bug in them.
After buttoning everything back up I left some absorbent rags around to check for leaks at the top of both tanks The next fuel fill up showed the leak at the damaged fitting. I'm sure this fitting was cracked by me when I was cleaning the inside of the tank and disturbed the long pick up tube with the rag. The white L fittings at the top of these tank are extremely fragile. I replaced this one with brass. (On my starboard tank, another fitting had previously cracked when the tank expanded (when full), pressing the fragile fittings into the floor above. I've since installed a wooden block to hold that tank in proper shape. On that side, the leak was revealed when the tank level indicator was surrounded by fuel. Hard to miss. Took me quite a while to realize it was a broken fitting, and not a leaky gauge gasket.) Not too smelly. I was surprised how much fuel was in the sump.

I have contemplated over the years installing a fuel polishing system integrated into the fuel system so, when the tanks are both below 50%, I would pump and polish from one into the other, clean the tank, and then do the reverse into the other, clean that tank, and and then balance the tanks.
