Hi looking to get a good resolution to down wind sailing and storm sails , currently have a standard self tacking jib , standard main with three reefs rather than two and a cruising chute/ asymmetric 200m2. the boat has the genoa tracks so thinking of a roller genoa. Would anyone care to offer opinions on options for downwind so if using a genoa do you fit an additional winch or can you cope with the existing , anyone sorted out twin headsails. Also options for storm sails
Regards Jim

hi Jim,
dealing with the same question these days. latest decision is to get a storm jib with sleeve that can be hoisted on top of the rolled jib, and a trysail. for the trysail, instead of a separate track, I will add 2 cars to the set of cars currently serving the main sail. When mainsail is down, the head car must be disconnected from main sail and used together to the 2 spare cars for the trysail.

regards

Some years ago Johan Hackman posted his experiences, on the forum, with a storm jib that was supposed to wrap around the forstay over the furled ST jib. He has a 34 ft Hanse.
From what I recall, it was far from successful, although he may have solved the issue over time. May I suggest, that before investing in such a sail you might PM him & ask him how he got on.

For whatever it is worth, here is the thread: https://www.myhanse.com/i-got-to-try-my-new-storm-jib-today_topic3059_page1.html.

Please bear in mind that wrote about this more than a decade ago and I have not used the sail since. It might be that others may handle this sail better than I did and be more successful with it.

And oh, I see that the old sense of humour was present as well, if you go to page 3. Those were the times, Samuel!

See, I do recall your excellent posts. Stories of Stampe plus your daughter & her friend.
Somewhere I have the pictures of the London boat show & the winning picture of the photo competition.
You are in the group picture.

I would imagine that by now you have learned how to sail a 342 in F9 & no longer need to reef in such zephyr breezes. Just stick a reef in your hat when going up wind.Wink
