Looking at getting a new yacht - primarily to keep my 88yo Father-in-law sailing. Current tiller boat too difficult for him to get around in, and too much maintenance.
We are usually only 3 up (2- 4) so self tacker can help get out more often, sail in 15 - 20 kn of wind on the Swan River Perth Australia. Most of the fleet are Cole 32. There is a new Jenneau SO 33i (slow so far). The in-law is still fiercely competitive so dont want s slow boat. Could also look at the Bavaria 32, Benneteau 32, Elan 32 (expect to be fast but the swinging wheel may not suit),Dehler 32 etc. First 30/Archambault/Sun fast 3200 too racy for him. I know the most important thing is how you use your boat. But sails etc being equal is the Hanse 325 quick? I like the look of the keel torpedo, is the small jib slow - most of the fleet use large jibs. Thanks for any comments.

In 15 to 20 kn i think you will be fine with the smaller jib.
Under 8 kn it's a problem (on my 470 anyway) For the different brands. Look at the polars and the handicaprules you are sailing under. It might give you a hint of the beat option for you if winning the weekly regatta is on top of the list. Compare deck / cockpit layout layout to find the one suiting your fathers needs and abilities best.

Hi
I have a 31 series so probably not so different There is nothing to stop you using a genoa in light winds. Make sure tracks are fitted. Some owners are not totally satisfied with the tracks installed at factory but i have no issues with mine This sail could be about 130% or a blade at 105% A lot of owners report improvements in certain direction & wind strengths with 100% sails especially if in exotic materials Personally i have no issues with the ST in light winds but i have fitted haulers for off wind & do use a cruising chute Re comfort The cockpit is a sit on rather than sit in which is not to everyones liking The track takes up a lot of room but i think it is needed . I have a tiller so cannot comment on how much room a wheel leaves My autopilot is a simrad tp10 & this takes up 1 seat position so the cockpit has room for 3( i also use an Aeries) There are only 2 comfortable cockpit positions - up against the cabin The helm position has no backrest but is great for sitting out Performance wise i can beat the bav classic & the beneteau ( oceanis) plus the old feeling31's no problem ,upwind i leave 2 local 35 HR' s easily I have sailed 60 mile in company with a swan 39 in light wind & 90 miles in light & heavy wind an etap 39 i can just about hold my own if they are not concentrating too much but i have to work at it However there is a fairly hot ( posh lam sails etc) local contessa 32 which liked to embarrass me upwind in heavy weather But i am working on that!! You cannot use a Genoa on the 325. I highly reccomend a Code 0 instead. I have the OEM jib by North on my 2012, now a days they use Elvstrom sails but I donīt know if that makes any difference. I think the boat would benefit from a better Jib then the Stock and that will be my next step up. I think the 325 will give any boat in the class a good run for itīs money but a Dehler 32 would be better choice for racing. As a cruiser I think its a great boat!
