Hi All,
I am doing some research on the Elvstrom mainsails supplied on our Hanse 460s. When convenient if you are able could you please send my by PM the serial/ model number from the sail and noting if it is a hardtop Bimini or not and IMF or not. The number is on the sail near the mast and is accessible when the sail is up. Happy sailing! Thank you so much, in advance. Cheers J

Can we ask what the research is? The reason I am curious is that my Elvstrom sails had a manufacturing defect and we didn't discover it for 5 years. Elvstrom replaced them at a significant discount (they were five years old after all). Are you seeing some kind of problem with your sails? |

Hi Rick,
I want to understand how they assign sails to specific models. So we can easily and quickly identify if a forum members sails are the correct ones. Once I have muddled through how they know which sail is designed for which yacht I will make the results available for all forum members. My expectation is that the methodology for the 460 will apply to each Hanse model. Errors are being made and I hope that Hanse will appreciate how this could make their business make less mistakes. Cheers J

You might think about combining that tracking with a "known defects" component. The way they identified my manufacturing defect was via a range of serial numbers from the sail (bad adhesive used in the EPEX construction). In your case if someone has a serial number right in the middle of that range, they have a better case for Elvstrom dealing with it.

Are you still investigating which detail in configuration makes it necessary to get another sail?
Wouldn’t it be better to start investigating if a hardtop changes the position of the boom?
