I purchased a 311 in May 2003 and have had a superb first season sailing on the Humber out of Hull Marina.
One of the items on my winter to do list is installing an additional clutch for the 3rd reefing point. Has anyone any experience of this? The heads headliner is sealed in and I'm not sure what sort of reinforcement is under the clutches. Mike H |

Mike, I had a new clutch put on the port side house for a spinnaker line head aft. You don't have to do anything in the head. It is all done on the house. But, if your 311 is like mine you have 3 lines on the port side of the house? Yes/No ? If it is 3 you will need new hardware up mid-ship on the house. You have 3 spinners and you can't buy a single one so I had to remove the 3 spinners and buy 2 new ones that house 2 spinners each. This requires some gelcoat work to make it look nice. I bought a brand hew 311 in April of 2002 and I would love to ask you a few questions about your boat. I have had some issues with mine and I want to know if others have had the same issues. But it is hard to find Hanse owners on the West Coast of American. My e-mail is mhsl808@yahoo.com Thanks, Matt

Mike, You do not need to remove the headlining. An aluminium pad is glassed into the underside of the coach roof. Just drill into this and tap it and then bolt the new clutch(es) straight on. Use plenty of sikaflex. I added three extra clutches like this. For the turning blocks (line controllers) mount additional sheeves on top of the existing ones. Simply remove the bolts and replace with bolts twice the size to accommodate the sheeves. Marcus |
