Dear all, With the endoscope I was able to get up inside and see that the joinery had been fully routed out to take the speaker and then the fabric cover panel shown in my previous image as covering the space. This gave me the confidence to prise the fabric covered panel off and as can be seen from the image below this had simply been bonded in place with a cartridge gun adhesive Good news: Speaker aperture already cut for me Bad news: I now have a splodge load of Sikaflex to remove Thanks for all your interest and advice everyone ![]() |

Wow! Spare no sika for the small fabric panel - wouldn’t want it to go flying off in heavy seas and mar something with that soft fabric🙄🤷♂️.

Thanks for that Mike. I had a similar thought but didn't express it anywhere as succinctly as that.

Quick follow up that may have useful info for you all. Removing the sikaflex in a manner that didn't trash the appearance of the panel in the photo above was always going to be a challenge. I used a brand new scalpel blade and was able to shift the bulk of the material above but this left a thin grey film on the surface. I tried most of the readily available options (IPA, meths, acectone) but not made a difference. However one solution did. There is an off-the-shelf solvent called DMSO (even Amazon has it) and it appears to be completely harmless - no hazard warnings at all. However it is indicated as causing cured PU to swell (albeit slowly). I mixed this up with some fumed silica to make a thick gel that would not slide off the vertical surface, applied it and waited .. and waited ... and waited ... After a few hours the gel and the remnants of the grey PU film could be scraped off with the edge of an old credit card and the surface looks unaffected at all. I meant to take some photos of the finished job, but completely forgot. I'll do so next time I'm on board. Hope this helps
