I have a twin wheel set up and the starboard wheel squeaks while under sail. I have stripped the wheel off the pedestal as far as I dare and lubricated the obvious places. I have also slackened the cable just a touch to ease pressure on the chain. Still squeaks. Note it's only squeaking at the top of the pedestal where the wheel attaches.

My question is, has anyone else had this issue? How did they resolve it? Is there a simple fix I'm not seeing or a repair kit ie.. bearings and seals replacement.

Big thanks in advance 👍

Hi,
I have exactly the same problem. I have tried greasing but still squeaky.

Would love a resolution.

Hi, not sure if you have the same Jefa system, but when I had issues they sent me this useful drawing with all the part numbers.
This guy at Jefa is also very helpful and usually replies very quickly

Is the squeaking you hear specifically when you tighten the spinner brake hub(s) ?

Looking at the blow up drawing (again) I still don’t really understand how the brake (with brake pinion, brake plate etc.) works.
I think the braking mechanism is the same (or similar) on all Jeff steering systems, also single wheel and draglink systems.

Bottom line is (per Jefa input) that the squeaking is something you need to get used to, can’t really be prevented. jefa mentions the actual wheel brake system should not be greased.

I need to tighten the wheel brake when sailing on autopilot (most of the time) in order to prevent the large single wheel to start moving/oscillating from left to right all the time (from inertia of the large mass).

I regarded Jefa’s wheel hub disengagement system but its very expensive.
also thought about swapping the large SS wheel for a lighter GRP version (also rather dear).

This subject has been discussed in previous posts.

Bottom line the squeaking Is very annoying, but can’t be prevented.
or did I miss something ?

BR,
Peter

It squeeks even without the brake spinner on.

I'm sure there must be some way to quieten it. I have an idea I'm going to try this weekend and I will let you know if it works.

I can't accept a 'just get use to it'

Do you know how to access the chain that connects the two wheels? I can't get grease on it.

Hallo Blackbeard, did you find a solution? I would be very interested.
