Hi there,

I just purchased a 2017 Hanse 415 with a Jefa Steering System. We just made our first 100 mile passage and there is now a clicking coming from the port side steering wheel area.

I pulled off the floor board in the cockpit to inspect it.  It appears there is one or two wires that broke on a strand where it runs through the sheave on the port side.

I just ordered replacement cables from PYI in Seattle.

Is there any where else to inspect to determine what is making the noise? I want to ensure I have correctly identified the source.

Also, if this cable fails, the boat would lack any steering other than auto-pilot and emergency tiller?

Any other tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, you are correct that if your cable fails you will be left with just the autopilot and emergency tiller

Hi, you can check the wheel bearings and chain sprockets quite easily once the cables are slackened on the quadrant. The only other thing is the below deck wire pulleys which are almost impossible to get to without taking the pedestals out, but long arms and phone camera allows for inspection!
Good luck
