Hi,
I'm not a Hanse owner (yet), but I'm seriously considering buying a 2nd hand, around 10 year old 430(e). Other options were -or still are until I bought a Hanse- older X-yachts or Grand Soleil of the same size. So performance/cruiser type yachts. My wife and I plan to sail it for a season in the weekends and holidays in Belgium/Netherlands/Nordic, adapt it to our needs and then sail for a year including an Atlantic crossing to spend the winter in the Caribbean. After that the plan is to keep it hopefully for a long time after that. I truly like the Hanse 430, and I read a lot of positive reviews, but it seems they are designed more for performance than comfort/robustness. I wonder how it is to spend a year on this boat, cross the Atlantic, or how robust they are. Anybody experience with this? Tips? I read some topics about this, but they seem to be about larger models. tnx

Can't comment on the 430, other than to say having crossed the Atlantic in a Beneteau Oceanis of a similar size I would have no reservations. I'd expect the Hanse to have greater stability and be a better sea boat.
Fwiw I'm planning on taking my 418 across at some point...when work or retirement allows! |

Hi Ragnar,
We have been sailing our Hanse 430e for more than 12 years now, and did a circumnavigation through Patagonia, the Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean to South Africa, the Atlantic Ocean through the Island. The last two years we sailed in Europe. Our Uhambo logged about 50000 nm and is still in good shape. Of course she is more performance than cruiser, but she is a very well balanced boat, easy to sail with short handed crew...and she is fast! Our home port is in France South Brittany, where she will winter before our next cruising season from May next year.. You will find more information in searching Myhanse about Uhambo. Alain

Thanks Matt,
I was not so worried about the size of the boat. There are even successful crossings with 30 footers. My concern was if a Hanse 430 is comfortable and robust enough to do these long voyages. And Alain, thanks for sharing this. Your adventure definitely proves it is possible. I guess it is easier to convert a performance yacht into a long distance cruiser than the other way around ;-). I'm looking forward to input from more 430 owners. R. |

Hi Ragnar,
Among other adventure of Hanse 430, the French flag « Da Boat » visited the Antarctica peninsula, and the Estonian flag « Temptation » made a solo circumnavigation with Uku Randmaa, who finished third in the Globe Challenge! Alain
