Hello Everyone.

I am looking at a 455 , the portside pushpit has sustained damage, does anyone have any experience of removing/ repairing ?

Does anyone know how the pushpit can be removed , how are the stanchions fixed to the deck/ toe rail ? Any advice would be appreciated

Many Thanks

All the railings and stanchions are attached to short posts fixed to the deck structure. They are removed by loosening an Allen screw at the bottom of the tubes. However, it looks to me that there is also damage or bending to the posts on the deck. Actually the tubing does not look too bad and can easily be straightened with a bit of heat and muscle. Take a closer look at those post. They look bad and may have damaged the fiberglass as well.

Hi Arcadia,

Thank you for your reply, OK I missed those Allen screws at the bottom of the posts,

Can the short posts be removed ?   is there any access below do you know ? Just thinking if they are distorted also ...

The fiberglass/ gelcoat  all looked ok !

The posts can be replaced but it depends on access. Iím not sure about the ones in question. Hanse has a habit of closing things up once they are installed. Only way to know for sure is inspection. The posts are usually attached with a nut from below the bulwark. If you remove the pushpit you can better tell the condition. I donít think this is a deal breaker. If the rest of the boat is OK, just adjust the price. The 455 is a great boat. Lots of room, sails great and has a big boat look and feel.

The posts are well seated so hopefully you won't need to replace these.  I hooked a lazy line around my keel which resulted in a bent stanchion but no damage to the fixing.
I think they screw direct into an alloy plate in the hull.  There is no but on the back.  If you open the inspection cover in the aft cabins you (or a suitably sized crew member) can get into the void behind the cabin where the end of these bolts are visible/accessible.

Hi there,
I have removed four posts on my pushpit to install a solar arch.  The posts are removed from outside and are taped into aluminium plates contained within the bulwark. Remove them and tape up the holes left behind until you are ready to reinstall them.

Cheers

Hi Dave,

Thanks for this, how are they held in place, are there grub screws underneath the small collars at the bottom ?

Thanks

Charlie

Hi Charlie,

Once you pull the pushpit off the stanchion posts will stand up about 100mm above the deck.  Everything is still waterproof at this point.

The head of the stanchion has a hex drive type recess in it which you can use a normal socket drive on to unwind the post.

I have spare ones so i will take a photo and post it seperatly.

Cheers

Dave
