Hello 385/388 sailors -
I am a new owner of 388 hull #304 (actually in purchase contract, soon to close), having made the decision to move up to a larger boat from my current 2004 Hanse 341. My 341 is a single helm boat with a narrow cockpit, so bracing oneself while healing over has never been a problem. It seems to me that the helmsman footrests on the twin-helm 388 would be very helpful, especially when steering from the high side. However, I am concerned that they may pose a tripping hazard when at anchor and the helmsman seats are in the upright position to allow guests to move through the area to access the swim platform. Of course sailing efficiency and ease are paramount, so I am inclined to install the footrests, but would appreciate insight from other owners. Thank you, Ken Haas San Francisco Bay Area

I had a 385 so had additional support from the fixed seats/lockers behind the helm positions. We debated about installing these as we consider ourselves adventurous sailors and consequently sometimes get a bit of heel! Ultimately I didn't install them. Had undone do I think I would just have used a single one in the middle to give additional bracing.
I imagine that with only the fold down seats which don't offer and foot bracing, your choice may be different.
