Hi Sue,

I won't be seeing much of Blackpool, I'm working in a computer "bunker" where the light of day doesn't reach!!! I don't think I'm missing much though.

We are thinking of upgrading to a bigger genoa, much to Jo's dismay, ("What I'll have to start using the winches when we tack!!!????") and retire the self tacking gear. It is very useful on the lake but, like you, we need more speed, especially downwind.

Anyway, it's an excuse to go to the boat show and spend yet more money!!!

Speak soon.

Tony

Tony,

I sail a 341 with the self-tacker, a crap sail, but as we all know-convenient. I do a lot of solo sailing & it's sooo lazy. I use an 88m2 gennaker for lighter wind sailing  - it is flat-cut radial (with snuffer) and has a god range. I also use a spin-pole on the self tacker for down wind sailing. I get ample speed that way. It is for the close-hauled work that I miss a real genoa.

Anyway, each to his/her own.

Happy sailing.

Hi again Tony

I have to agree with Jo - the ease of the self tacker was great - but even I have to admit the performance of the boat is so much better with the genoa.....

The boat show - like you we are off to it as well - looking for a bimini to be made this year ready for next season.

We have just had a most fantastic weekend on the boat - went to Poole Saturday - back Sunday intime for a lovely swim off the back of the boat.

Did make the time in the water useful though - cleaned the water line!!!!!

Byeeeee

Sue

Hi Sue

We actually managed to get to the lake on Sunday, work went very well and we finished sooner than we thought.

Unfortunately there was no wind!!!! We simply sat and baked in the sun after a bit of boat cleaning.

Thanks for reply regarding Arun sails, I will look them up at the show. We are going on Monday and will, no doubt, be looking at the new 342 on the Hanse stand. (ONLY looking though!!)

Franko,

We have a cruising chute that we can deploy but, especially on Lake Windermere, it can be more trouble than it's worth as the wind changes direction  so often due to the surrounding hills. That's why I'm looking for a simpler soultion.

Bye for now and happy sailing.

Tony

Hi Sue,

mi name is Vinci and I'm the solo 331 owner in Italy. My boat lies in Tuscany and I bought it new in 2001. Probably was the last 331 sold in the history.

Atually, I was also surfing around to get contacts with other 331 owners and I spot your site.

I'm pretty happy with my 331 that I sail iith my wife (and our dog) every single free weekend that we have.

I've been told that the 331 is an old model based on a famous regatta boat that won al lot of staff in the '80. The construction is solid even if there are a lot of things that are not properly well refined in the interiors. I agree with you that it sails greatly, expecially if compared with the new-generation of charter boats.

We just came back from a 3 weeks in Corsica and we got over 35 knots for various days with no problem. I usually sail it with the big genoa  to have an advantage on the light winds situations. When the wind get stronger i use to roll up the genoa. The shape of the sail get definetely worse in this case but is still OK.

We sailed a lot in the last years and visited a lot of places in the Med. We use not to go in Marinas (in the last three weeks of sailing we went just once) and so we must organize ourselves properly for the gas and the fresh water. Reservoirs are small in the 331!

Where do you sail  in UK? And how do you consider its seaworthness in the Ocean?

Did you have every sailed in Italy?

Do you have any interesting documentation or tips on the 331?

I don't have a digital photo of our boat now but i will send you shortly.

Ciao
