We sail a 301 with the volvo 2010 engine,and on a flat sea we managed to reach the dizzy speed of 4.9 knots measured on the log and gps.(under engine).This was full throttle at 3500 rpm.Under sail she will reach over 7 without trying.how does yours compare?Is the engine underpowered or is it something else? I had a 2020 in my last boat (Cobra 850 bilge keel)and had loads of power to spare.

With my 292 and volvo 2010 and the orginal volvo 14x8x2 i reached the following (sea and wind =0): 2000 rpm --> 3,9kn Then i change to a folding propeller from spw Varifold 13x9x2 ( http://www.bruntons-propellers.com/products/variable/varifol d/) 2000 rpm --> 5,1kn The engine is underpowered. you need >16 hp engine but with the varifold propeller is this ok. Hi Steve, Something is not functioning properly. Is your log correct? Is there something around your prop? Is the prop damaged? I have got a 301 with a 2020 and she will do 7Knots comfortably, and a friend with a 2010 has no trouble doing 6.5Knots. I'm sure that the size of the engine is not a problem it is a fault ,maybe one I have mentioned above. Good luck, Richard |

Hi Steve I have a 300 with a 2010 and my experience is that you should be hitting 6knts easily in calm water especially after a lift and scrub. I have noticed that even if there is only slight fouling on the hull (slime)the area round the prop gets a build up of all sorts and this drastically effects my speed. I had it lifted and scrubbed yesterday and the boatyard put on some sort of special anti foul for the prop area (sorry cant remember what its called). If nothing else, the scrub was worth it - we hit 10.5 knts surfing for the first time yesterday - F6 off Swanage Bay. Regards Paul

Cheers all I have arranged for her to be lifted this week so i can inspect underneath. I think it may be that sitting in the mud at conwy marina may have scrubbed the anti foul off the wing and rudder.If this is the case I will use a hard antifoul to try and make it stick. steve Edited by BlueNote2 - 01 October 2006 at 15:04 |

Hi all
Just to let you know we had blue note II lifted last week and the saildrive and prop were covered in barnacles,as was the rudder and wing and also the leading edge of the fin.Two coats of antifoul later she was returned to the water easily able to achieve over six knots under engine and nearly eight under sail.

Looking at the trees growing on my hull I will be lucky to make three knots this weekend - I'll probably need 4 knots of tide to get that fast as well. Still this will be the last trip of the season as we are lifting out at the end of the month - stayed in most of last winter so we'll give Tikatam a chance to dry out properly this winter and launch early in the New Year.
We normally get a lot of brown slime on the bottom and weed nearer the waterline - barnacles are generally only small but seem to want to colonise the top of the rudder and prop/saildrive. We'll see soon Graham |

Super afternoon it reminded me of why we bought the boat in the first place.It is suprising how much diffrence a few barnacles can make to a boat,not only in speed but the handling as well.Did you use adigital camera?If so if I pm you my E mail address could you send it?
