I recently lost my self-tacking jib traveler end stop and have just replaced it. Has anyone worked out a way to stop the traveler before it hits the end stop? Can the jib car be tied somehow to limit its travel using dyneema for example?

What size boat is this? Neither my 385 or 458 have issues with the end stop. It is bolted into an alloy plate in the deck with two large bolts which are quite stubborn to remove. The stopper seems to have adequate cushioning to cope with the forces generated in tracking.

Updated 5/9/24 with photos of Self tacker arrester cord I have a length of paracord about 3-4 mm dia tied to a fitting on mast and tied off to the traveller, its set so it arrests the traveller roughly 5-6mm before the traveller hits the stop. I takes the shock out. Used with success on my H301 and H315. I will take photo to clarify tomorrow and update this post. Perry H315 [2007] I have struggled with photo format but hope you can see its just simple cord to arrest the self tacking car just before impact with end. In a good breeze hard tack the car may hit the end stop but having lost significant endergy to the cord.      Edited by perry - 05 September 2024 at 16:16 |

My boat is a 418. I also had this issue with a 2012 H385. The M6 set screws used to hold the end stops are undersized, hence their repeated failure. In a 30 knot squall the screws just sheared off. With much effort I have replaced the screws with M8

hi,
I have had it happen twice now on 2 Hanse boats. First was a 2012 H385, and more recently a 2021 H418. On both occasions my rigger has changed the M6 bolts for M8's. Those accidents happened in a 30kt squall off the Sydney coast. The M6 screws just sheared off.

Hi Dobrien,
We had same issue on our H418 #28. After loosing one end stopper in 2022, we had both stoppers (original Selden type 443-142-010 replaced by a Heavy Duty stopper from Selden, type nr 443-166-01 No issues since... Henk Touch of Grey

We had a similar problem: the end stopper broke and we found one part lying on deck (see photo). The screws were still in place. Going for stronger screws would not have prevented this damage - in contrary, bigger holes would have weakened the end stopper further more. I‘ll follow Henks advice - thanks for that.
