Hi All,
Thank you all for your kind assistance with my previous posts. Does anyone know with precision if the In-mast furling Elvstrom mainsail is a different size if the T-Top Hardtop Bimini is fitted. The mainsail fitted locally has the wrong shape for the rig indicating that it is too big. We think the halyard is fully up, but it scrapes against the boom and is not furling in with ease. Hanse, so far, says there is only one size 64sqm. The dealer says there are two sizes and this is not the first time Hanse has shipped the wrong H460 Elvstrom mainsail for a T-Top hardtop version. Cheers J

I have In-mast furling, Elvstrom and Hardtop.
Did you order the performance sails or regular? I have the Elvstrom performance sail. It is furling easily, but sometimes I think the leech is a bit too long.

Hi
Thank you for your post. I ordered H460 XE3005 "Elvstrom SPS performance sails - full battened, triradial main and jib" We have had two riggers and a sailmaker look at it and they all say either the two forestays are too long or the sail is too big. The impact of this is that they say "for a brand new sail the shape is all wrong and it has the same shape as a 10 year old sail that has been flogged to death" There is another possibility "that the halyard is not going all the way to the top of the mast track." Are you able to flatten your mainsail for big winds? Using the boom vang can you straighten the leech or is the travel restricted by the hardtop? Cheers J |

Ok. Same like me.
Yes.
If I try it without wind, I can‘t straight the leech totally. If I try it with wind, I can straighten it enough to have a good shape. |

Hi All,
Just been advised that there are now two 460's in Oz and now 1 in NZ with the hardtop that were supplied with the "non-hardtop" (I think Elvstrom) sail. Is anyone else out there with the hardtop 460 happy with the shape of their mainsail? Has anyone spoken with Hanse or Elvstrom? Can anyone confirm that there are two different sized sails? ie "Hardtop" and "non Hardtop" Thanks in advance Cheers J

Just to be sure I understand what you’re talking about:
You think because of the hardtop the boom is a bit higher at the end, which makes the sail from an in-mast furling system without hardtop not fitting to a configuration with hardtop?

Thank you for your reply.
I am attempting to obtain information so I can be absolutely certain one way or the other if our theory is correct. Our theory is that there are two differently shaped and sized Elvstrom IMF mainsails: one for the 460 Hardtop and another for the 460 non-Hardtop version. Cheers J

I understand.
But do you believe any part of the rigg is different or do you believe it‘s just the boom, which is a bit higher?

I would contact Elvstrom directly, Hanse are notoriously bad at answering client questions
Good luck Paul

Hi.
I was going through the Owner's manual in search for something else, but came across this: There are indeed 2 sizes of the main for Furling rig: In-Mast furling Mainsail (Dacron, AC5) 58.50 m² In-Mast furling Mainsail (Blue Water Dacron) 55.30 m² So it may not be related to the hardtop, but just to the type of sales one has ordered. PS the 63.80 m² sail is fully-battened Mainsail for Conventional rig.
