This is how I suggest to test IMO the fastest way to do it. If there is a leak in the coil inside the waterheater(boiler) ,under pressure Fresh water will pass by the leak inside the coil and finely come out the disconnected coil (heatexchanger) connection. If there is a leak and the pressure of the fresh water system is higher than inside the Volvo cooling system Fresh water slowly coming in to the engine. With the engine running and hot ,the pressure inside the Volvo will become to high and the pressure safety valve on top op the engine wil open and fill up the expansion tank and the coolingwater will end in to the engine compartment by the overflow. Just my thought

If there's leak with the coil inside the heat exchanger (clarifier), as the freshwater (non-engine) system is under pressure with the pump on, so if you remove the pipes that come from the engine to heat the water, then any crack in the coil will show in the form of a continual leak and the the water pump running to maintain pressure!

Charlie, I discovered antifreeze under my engine and under the floor of the main cabin after a sailing weekend. The engine alarm was going on at low engine speed. After looking all over, I discovered that it was the overflow plastic tubing going to the overflow bottle that was disconnected...stupid as that.

Ok Gang I thought I would give an update on the hot water tank isolation to see if the coil was split and leaking ....unfortunately it wasn't the tank! In the process of disconnecting the coolant lines I discovered the pressure release/drain valve on the tank to be leaking and when I went to drain the tank I discovered it was time to replace the tank due to rusty water pouring out at the bottom of the tank draining! I decided to upgrade and install a 40 Liter tank and she's working better than ever .... so now I am going to buy some UV dye and a black light and run that through the cooling system to try and trace the leak to its origins! I will update once I have any information!

Gang a little more of an update and also a question ...it appears now that I have found where the drips are located and need help identifying what the part on the engine this is ...I believe it is the raw water lines that feed into the heat exchanger to cool the coolant. I believe the gasket is the problem, this is the rear of the engine I have the Volvo D2-75F model - in the pic you can see the yellow drip at the bottom gasket. Thoughts ? I am going to talk to a Volvo mechanic this week and order the gasket and replace it - will take draining the raw water lines (also shutting the seacock for raw water off) and coolant in the engine before completing ...uploads/6969/Coolant_Leak_notes.pdf
