mgh7 Given that probably hundreds of readers out there view these pages, both you and tbbmarine are doing a great job of enhancing the resale value of your boats for basically obsessive compulsive driven issues. Keep up the mediocre work.

As we all know, all boats leak. This is a fact of life. I have owned a Contest 36, and a Cape Dory 30. I have skippered Hylas. Tartans, J44s and other qualitiy boats and I have also sailed my share of Beneteaus, Dufore's,and Catalinas: and I can tell you that all boats leak. The question is, are leaks easily fixed, is factory support up to snuff, and is information readily available to owners. Then we can find the little leaks and other flaws in order to improve our vessels. Although, tragically, some owners do not look and never find their leaks. It is important for owners to discuss these things. Otherwise, we learn very little. Another thing that good companies do is listen to comments both good and bad, improve their boats, find the leaks, change products and do their best with customers. Defensive owners who worry about resale value and would muzzle others are not helping. Anyone looking through my messages on this forum will see that I have asked for help, offered advise, and praised these vessels. We need to be realistic and helpful about faults, and then others who come on this site looking to gather information about these boats will appreciate that Hanse owners are open, honest consumers who know what they are talking about when it comes to boats and sailing. There is not better reference for a vessel than having these kinds of people talking about the boats- even if it is to try to find that hard to find leak or, god forbid, finding other faults. And, truth be known, with a new vessel like the 411, owners often find these things and we trust that the factory willl listen, help, improve the product. And lets face it; when the builder listens and improves the product- that is the best advertisement for his product.

This is the 4th boat that I have owned going back to 1985. 1 O'Day and 3 C&C's. Many owners find, fix and don't whine about their problems on a bulletin board. Trying to use a world-wide bulletin board (hosted by a dealer, not the factory) as leverage to get someone to fix your problems for you is not very smart. Talk to your dealer in person, by phone or email. He communicates with the factory. I suspect you may have worn out your welcome with him, however. I reviewed all of your postings and found the only two positive comments you have made:
Hmm.........

Sorry you missed the point. Dollars, even Canadian ones are not the issue here.

I did own 2 Jeanneau, they had leaks. I did own 2 Etap with no leak, I know of two other Etap that do not leak. So all boats do not leak.

I have been sailing in Australia for more than 30 years BIG WINDS and BIG SEAS I have had my 371/94 at sea in over 40 knots it was dry[relatively] and stable and no leaks. I agree with previous postings lets talk about all the positives about our boats wich in my opinion are the best value on the market. Good happy sailing, Rob Hanse Off. |

1. This board is not for attaching each other. 2. If Hanse never fixes any of these issues the resale value for all Hanse's will be very low. They make an ok boat but they really need to get some quality control in their factory. I have now spoken too and met a couple of people that have been to the Hanse factory in Germany and both said the same thing......they have almost no quality control. The list if problems on my boat is so long it is pitiful. I have also spoken to several Hanse dealers around the world and not all are happy with the boats they receive. So Hanse really needs to get their act together and monitor what they do in the factory so people like us can enjoy sailng Vs spending tons of money fixing things that never should have needed fixing.

To 371-#235 But if the dealer (In my case Yachtzentrum itself) ignores your claims what can you do. Lawyers are expensive! Anyone here know of the German authority for consumers complaints? Suggestions welcomed.

Franko, Thanks for the pictures. For the mooring cleat attachment the solution is easy. Just back off the nuts and washers, get a block of King Star board the same thickness as the in-turned hull flange; mate it against the two thru-bolts glued with siki-flex, and then tighten back up the nuts and washers. The gelcoat repair (actually from where they joined the thansom to the hull) is fixed by using a Preval sprayer to spray the area with matching gelcoat, then gradually wet sanded out using finer and finer sandpaper. The crack on your floor looks to be the result of a grounding. Did you hit bottom?

371-#235 Thanks for the advice, but you missed or ignored the point. Would you buy a car from the manufacturer and proceed to put right all the faults found within the warranty period yourself? My gripe is the lack of acceptance of responsibility from Hanse. 1. Never heard of King Star board here in Sweden. But repair has been made by myself. See following: I suppose you are aware how troublesome it is to gain access to the underside of all the cleats? Not so easy.
2. What is a Preval sprayer? 3. No, I have not hit bottom.
Do you want the complete list of problems I have had with my boat? In that case e-mail me with your contact details. This is but a small sample. I guess you are the Canadian agent for Hanse yachts. Am I right? If not you should be. Cheers Frank
