lock drawers - is there a solution?

   Hi to All, 
I would like to know if you have found a solution to lock the drawers in place effectively during ocean crossing...without destroying too much the aesthetics - that is very pleasant when the boat is at dock. I am not thinking to fine tuning of the locking hooks, that over time move out of place and lose the grip (also following the drawers/wood deformations) - but more to an additional and robust solution that doesn't affect permanently the aesthetics. I thought about 2x adhesive velcros connected by a velcro non-adhesive strip, for example.... 

Any tested and validated solution?

	I'm not sure that the plastic hooks that hold an under-sink cabinet in place will stop a loaded drawer of tools from slamming open in a wave on the wrong tack. I haven't added anything to mine and they've been thru some serious waves. The cabinetry drawers and cabinet doors have stayed put with the normal hardware. If not, it probably means something is wrong with the hardware. What I DID have to do is make sure I had chrome steel rods holding back the dishwasher drawers and the refrigerator drawers. I had a refrig drawer open in a wave once and that crashing dump of food made me vow to fix it.

	Rick, your 575 has the older style push button latches which are a lot more reliable. The 588 has hidden spring loaded hooks which don’t always line up with the keeper plates. I have had the same problem. My fix was to replace all the screws with larger and longer ones. Once the plates were aligned properly, and tightened down, they have been very secure and easy to latch. Still, I think the push button hardware would have been better, but replacing dozens of them was a bit much and in some cases not possible.

	I comptely agree on the analysis. We have some pushbuttons and indeed they all work well. The issue is that the two little screws fixing the hook get loose, the hook displaces, and then the drawer opens. I will try with replacement screws that are larger and possibly longer . There may be still some issues with particularly heavy drawers (the one below the table chart in my case, a very large drawer where I put my toolbox), but I will proceed empirically and see ... 	This change was pointed out to me and "sold" as an enhancement when I was shopping for the new boat last year. The thinking is that they will always engage when the door/drawer is closed rather than needing to remember to bush the buttons in. I think another aesthetic benefit is the fact that the catches are hidden on some of the high level cupboards. I often used to have cutlery flying around after a tack when someone had forgotten to push the button in, but once secured they held everything, including the large double drawer in the 2 cabin 385 galley. I had to replace one or two after 5 years or so as they became difficult to dis-engage. However another change in the "8" series which I see an negative is the cupboard doors now being hinged at the top and not the bottom. This makes them almost impossible to use at sea.

	You're right about the top opening cabinets. The fix was to add tall fiddle rails on the inside edge. The top opening doors then give a better view at what’s inside.

	Just like the buttons that someone forgot to push in, the blind latches sometimes don’t latch fully even though they look latched. The doors close and the latch only partially catches. You need to tug on them after you close them - probably my least favorite “upgrade” on this boat.

	And one more problem with them. Guests have no idea they exist, and so the tug on the drawers and doors until something breaks! I’ve gotten into the habit of briefing everyone who comes on board.
