One of my spring projects after launch was to replace the mainsheet on Black Diamond. I split a roll of Red, 14mm, Endura Braid with a friend and we are doing pretty well on price. Its expensive by the foot, but buying a 600' roll drops the price by over $2.50/foot. The book says 55M is needed, but I added a few feet to be sure and moved the boom around and up to be sure. It was much easier than I thought once I removed a few inches of core, stitched the covers together and ran them thru. The German mainsheet system makes things *SO* much easier. You just push the button on the winch :-) See pics... ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Have you considered any kind of boom brake or do you rig up a preventer when doing downwind for an extended period during a passage?

I usually rig up a preventer. It works fine. To be honest, the times (at least where we sail) where we need one are limited given the angle of the spreaders and the prevailing wind. |

Very nice job, I did the same on mine few years ago, since the main sheet was not good enough to retain the charge and since then, no problem anymore.
As for the boom brake, I use A Walder system, works perfectly.
