Could you kindly inform which U-bolts or similar you used?
It will also require that the ceiling is taken down I guess.

The old system delivered by Hanse with a small mainsheet traveller in front of the sprayhood was too weak. Twice my mini-schackles was pulled totally out of shape. In the foto on page 1 you can see the small holes in the sprayhood, where the ropes from the traveller used to be.
If you search this forum, you can find several posts from people who changed their traveller to a heavier model. Also see ( ).I chose to change the system into what Hanse has used since around 2008.

Implementing the new system is quite simple. No need to take down the cieling. After removing the  traveller you will see four 8 mm holes with threads where the traveller was . Those threads are grooved in the alu-plates molded into the GFK.

You can take two 120 mm lenghts of stainless steel 5x25 mm, and have them bended so the vertical end is about 25 mm ( Do not bend them yourself, there are professional tools for this). In this L-shaped thing you drill 2 holes that will fit into the old ones. In the short end of the L-shape you also drill a hole in the middle. This is for the schackle to mount the block with. Under the block you put a spring. Now just look at the foto and mount the halyard.
The lenght of the L-shape is from memory -  check on your boat.
If you are going to form the L-shape yourself, remember the metal needs to be very hot. (Bending cold metal reduces strenght).
The forces working on the L-shape are strong, the first hole has to be very close to the angle, so the pull from the boom can not bend the metal. This worked for me, but I give no warranty.

I made this change around 2010, a while after Hanse had the system on all their new models. Since then my system has endured a full storm and a few gales without problems.
The old traveller I sold on e-bay.
This photo is of the system on the first Hanses. Here Hanse has used two eye-bolts.

Conversion from standard factory one sided mainsheet to a double sided, endless german mainsheet system on 370 and 400 is quite easy, no invasive work really.

You can purchase eye bolts and fit these into mast end of the boom and fit blocks (see photo) you can add block to deck on coamings just outside your primary winches in cockpit (see photos) and lastly fit 12mm shackles to shroud bases and fit blocks to these (see photos).

All of these changes don't involve any drilling, pulling the interior lining off etc except maybe rear paddies if these aren't fitted standard, new mainsheet is approx 20m in total length.

If an owner wanted to convert back to single sided standard mainsheet they could do so with no visible impact.

I have sailed my 400 this way now for 5 years, ability to trim and ease the main from either helm and not have to run forward makes significant difference to sailing enjoyment particularly short handed.

I have traveller in cockpit just ahead of binnacle Harken very heavy duty track  with a 6:1 windward car. I have a 6:1 coarse block for main sheet and then a 4:1 in line with this so I can have 24:1 fine tune. This is vastly superior to the cabin top system that came with boat. You can't walk between binnacle and seat in cockpit  in any case so the track being in the way is not that an added inconvenience.
When cruising this set up makes it easy for my wife to handle the sail and for racing we get great shape.
