Great to see these rare photos of the 630!  I think my boat would fit nicely inside yours! Please keep us posted on your progress.

Fully agree the designs are not for racing due mainly to equipment layout and the inability of a sizable race crew to action controls.

But I do know our 461 actually rates well under the Caribbean Handicap System and shorthanded racing is something I believe they'd all do well in.

Hi John,

All I meant is that a fast hull doesn't make a racing boat. The Hanses are fast.If additionally a Hanse model has also a favorable rating under a specific measurement system, it can win races !!! especially long offshore ones where the easy handling is important since because of crew rotation you actually race shorthanded even with a large crew. Around the cans is another story.

Hi all,

I will definitely make a stopover in Hamble for a few days. I will also be able to visit my son leaving (studying) in Canterbury, Kent, and sail around the isle of Wight. I might have to refresh my tide knowledge. Does  this complication exist in The Solent?

How is sailing in Singapore ?

firstly, apologies for the off-topic.Tongue

we are in the inter-monsoon period, so wind can be from all direction at about 0-5knots. the only strong winds these days will come with the sumatras rolling down the indonesian mountains(60-100miles away) and then the wind will be between 20-50knots.

there are too many restrictions and too many ships.

a ferry or ship can pass 10-50m away and nobody would bat an eye. practically all waterways here are "restricted channel" and the ships have right of way and we get honked off or the pilot/tug boats(THUG BOATS) will "manuever" you away.

IMO thailand, malaysia and indonesia  is much better.

and they are opening cambodia and vietnam as well. however i've yet to go there.

cheers

OK. BACK TO TOPIC.Clap

Hi Pano - boaty looks great and congratulations. For sure a lot of work to get all the gear organised in time but the planning is half the fun. We took delivery of Savarna at Griefswald in June 2005 and found the people there very helpful and friendly. We then sailed from Griefswald to Denia (near Valencia) where we wintered that year. If you check our blog you can see the route we followed and our experiences (in some cases with Hanse dealers en route).

Cheers
Keith

Hi Panos,
It certainly does - in fact with three rivers pouring out into the Solent plus two openings to the sea east and west, the tidal flows get somewhat interesting.
However - nothing beats a foul tide better than a 100hp yanmar!
If you wish to visit your son (or have him visit you) then suggest you call into Ramsgate which is only 35 km by car and en-route from Germany.
The Hamble / Isle of Wight is only a long day sail (for a 631) from there.
Let us know when you're arriving and we'll organise to meet up for a meal - I suggest you also contact Hanse in the Hamble and get them to organise a visitors berth as space is very limited that time of year.
JOHN

Hello John,
Hanse will have the boat ready in mid July, according to the contract. If they are accurate, then I should be vising Hamble around mid August. We will probably stay there for a week. I will contact Hanse in the Hamble as soon as I have some more details about the delivery schedule.
Thanks for the info.

Panos, I would love to see the picture you use as avatar in a slightly better resolution. Could you post it, please?

I married my wife on the foredeck of my boat. I posted some photos here.

Hi Johan,
I have seen your wedding pictures, they are very beautiful and sailorly.
Following are some wedding and next day pictures (out of the more than 5000 taken). Our wedding was during the winter. Snow in Greece is rare, but we got married in middle of the worst snowstorm of the last 80 years!about 20 cm of snow just during the ceremony and over 1 meter total. Athens airport was closed for 3 days. The snow in the pictures is real snowBig%20smileBig%20smileBig%20smile. Snowing or even raining during wedding is considered good luck over here.
