JeanCharles
Thanks for the feedback  (obviously a bit dissuasive).  How about other opinions on this topic? Clearly, there is an element of sailing in uncharted waters, with a brand new design and a boat that still hasn't been mass produced (think Airbus 380 or Boeing dreamliner- toutes proportions gardees, of course), so I have no idea if this new boat is rigid enough, safe enough, practical enough v/s more traditional fiberglass boats.

In my own case, i've no experience with self-tacking jibs, and none with Hanses, having sailed for years on Beneteau's and Jeanneau's.  For you all Hanse sailers, what is like to switch from a Beneteau for eg to a Hanse?

sailor John, HAPPY NEW YEAR
For one I have decided to say things like they are. I had a Jeanneau, one with wich I had a problem of speed because of a retractable keel, so I consentrated on the fact that I could almost beach it and have the best anchor sites:-))
After I sailed a Beneteau owner design 2 cabins and 2 toilets BUT started to come out the sailboat with 2 wheels and larger stomacks without compremising speed because of the flatter hull.

SORRY FOR MY TECHNICAL WORDS IN ENGLISH I'M FRENCH!!!

Fall 2009 I went to Annapolis near Washington DC. Its a boat show likek Cannes but much niccer posssible? Yes....When I saw for the first time the First 50 my jaw dropted literarely. Sleek looks put away anchor and a cockpit with 2 wheels and that floor that falls right out and that was the intro because the interior was just as nice. The thing was that the price was to high for me. I was really satisfied with my Beneteau every thing worked and was doing the expected. And I saw the Hanse 470 2009. It was exactly the boat I wanted. I put my boat for sale and lucky enough we sold in 7 days. Its easy you take care of youre boat as if it was a collection car and first come first sold. Went to Paris and realised that and this part people dont realize, is that Hanse makes the cheapest boat on the market. Are they made cheaper? I dont think so. The problem with Hanse is that they deliver boats that are different then what you order. They say in the flyer that they reserve the right to change the looks or the way it is configurated. Second you pay quiite a bit of $$$ for preparation and they dont do the job. If there is one thing I could for them is check the boats to be delivered. Exemple auto pilot not programmed no anti freeze in the motor, VHF not inegrated Generator not programmed Main chager not programmed results battery down every where no hot water no auto pilot no depth sounder no lock meter. Sailboat not washed not waxed Propeller installed with the wrong pitch.
Would I still buy a Hanse? Hummm.
Lets say if I did I would take delivery in Greiswald and planify a voyage to St Petersburg and stop in Greiswald to have them fixe the things because down in the Med its try and error.
Love my boat its beautyfull its fast very fast. I took every options I think.

Hoping too that the 495 is the answer to all our yachting needs and will check out in Dusseldorf thoroughly before parting with serious cash !

Hull - Missing out on the proven steel skeleton will be a concern ......  but we may compensate by injecting foam into all void box sections as on our previous yachts to great effect.
Rig - High mast (if keel stepped) and generous fore-triangle to give a balanced self tacking rig welcome.
Engine - Probable upgrade to turbo diesel version as this is a big yacht for 75HP.
Interior - Liked the glossy mahogany interior seen on the 545 in Paris .... which brought the yacht a step away from IKEA utility. All floors will be up and exposed end grains and untreated ply sealed with GRP resin/varnish/silicone.
Electrics - Upgrade to 24v possibly, extra alternator/higher output, bilge cable connections silicone sealed, LCDs, extra battery.

Merci jeancharlesleb, vos mots techniques en anglais sont excellents! i'm French too;-)
and thanks for these insightful comments.  May I ask a question: did you take delivery in le Canet?  I heard that this was Hanse's own operation, so it is disconcerting to hear of the bad experience you had.  In my case, I'm asking for the boat to be delivered in Greece, and I have no idea how professional or thorough the rigging and commissioning is done there (and a bit far from Greiswald to have ti fixed!)

Also did you take the mast with the furling system? I'd like to get it (i'm getting older and lazier, not to much appetite anymore for wrongly named lazy jacks), but I'm concerned that with such a high mast and a small jib, the result will be really bad (ie, inefficient sail as is normally the case with in mast furling systems, compounding the problem of a small self tacking jib)

We took delivery in Marseille with MB Yachting Mr Boronat who does what he can. The SAV was taken by Firros in cannes since they are equiped with the necessary tools to mast a 21 meter mast . The new place in Le Cannets did not exist at the time. As far as the furling system I would personnaly not go with it. I had it on my Beneteau and it outcomes a lack of surface behind the mast. Each time you take a furling system for the main sail its 20% surface less. If you really want furling I a would go for Boom furling it is much more natural reafing. I saw a furler on a 545 meaning that it will exist on a 495 or 470 or 475 that should maybe come out later I heard in Paris.
If you dont go for furling you have to take in youre contract the installation of a third reef. Once every line is indicated with a marker it is not very hard to reef. I'm 54 years old I have hernias in my back as if I collected them ( had alot of serious accidents as a fireman).
The geneker under various cuts will be a must eventually, and would not buy from Hanse as any fancy equipment like dessalinator or air conditioning they do a very poor job. Its improvisation from the beginning to the end.

Give me your mail and I have pictures

John

much more to say on ....

HI

Thank you for your offer to assist

I am about to place an order for the 495 – I attend the show in Germany in the last couple of days

My questions is if you have asked them for any modifications and which ones did they agree to?

Are you using WENDEL & RADOS for any of the integration?

I am about to place an order for the 495

Any advice on what type of service level agreement I can expect from Hanse and what is the level of support and response time once problems occur

24v more efficient in larger yacht with long cable runs as transmission losses lower - current lower for the same power, pumps and motors twice as powerfull for the same size (Ohm's law or something).
See my notes on the 495 at  Dusseldorf last week.....
