New 495 ! Congrats YoYo - we were at Dusseldorf and are tempted to place order also.
I have approached things with the view that we are getting a huge, modern yacht at a competitive price - because it is built in a yard working in a mass production environment.
Rather than upset ourselves and the yard, we will make all mods and upgrades via Hanse dealer outwith Greifswald ........ they are too busy producing to get involved in my details.
Will use local yard Rados to get basics correct as per contract: sails, rigging, onboard functions etc to confirm that what we pay for is what we get - also to sort out a trial sail locally and to make her safe for sailing away.
I could send you my huge spec. list for out yacht directly if you are interested.
Where are you ?

David Hi Thanks for your quick response I am from Australia but leave in Europe and will sail only in the Mediterranean. I am ordering the boat with the flowing additions ( to be supplied by Hanse ) apart for the cruising pack , comfort pack and navigation pack : · Air-conditioning + Generator. · The 3000W Inverter + 2 more batteries · Additional freezer unit + ice maker · Radar · Upgraded sail system · Simrad control unit at navigation station connecting to TV/PC rather than investing in an additional chart plotter. · Led lights throughout the boat. As to other add on – I am still unsure about the type of media solution I will install as well as the internet connection ( SIM card) or joinery work ( such as shelving in the skipper cabin and other storage solutions) I would appreciate any ideas with regard to modifications add on you would recommend Thanks |

good choice Yoyo where in the Med are you going to be?
we are in Marseille jeancharleb1@gmail.com . just an opinion if you choose 24 volts i am not sure you will have service easely when you are in back country or small ports 49 is still in the small boat division meaning that small marinas can receive you for service like Cassis for instance upon all this I would consider installing air and led and tv and other small jobs you will save 50% and will be installed where you want wich is not small my email is there and know many adress in the french Med they have installed gen and air on mine and cancelled one cockpit locker with this ( only outside locker ) . I know they could have installed it over the motor ( the gen ) By the way changing lights for led is 20 minutes the price 7$ us each. ice cube machine.... Solar panels will be practical...where? Arch davit will be necessary 50 mm tubes mandatory the arch is 3.5 meters wide . finally there is space under cockpit floor wich seems unaccessible further back of the wheels the Hanse representative could not say what was there... think carefully for options people use Edited by jeancharleb - 28 January 2011 at 18:17 |

Have just placed my order for the 495 - but as an old RAYTHEON user I need some advice on SIMRAD/electronics generally:
Any comments or additional advice would be great, Thanks, David.

David,
A couple of comment on items 1, 7 and 8.
1. The handhelds that I've seen have a maximum power output of 5 watts as compared to a fixed VHF at 25W. So masthead antenna still isn't going to give the handheld good range. Compared to the other systems on a 50 foot boat, the VHF is a rather insignificant expense. I'd go with the fixed.
7. LEDs: I've never heard of this problem and suggest it is either just a "wive's tale" or something that might have been characteristic of very early technology.
8. Any solar panel is going to provide some charge. I guess the question is if that charge is significant relative to the consumption you plan to have. A good yacht electrician can help you with the calculations and eventual decision. However, relative to a genset, a solar panel's output is rather small....

7. There is an LED lantern that adjust the current, because an LED bulb overtime weakens a bit.
// during the very long life of the navigation light the LED will become less bright due to degradation of the epoxy surrounding the individual LED, even the high quality silicon expoxy we use will degrade. To compensate for this we adjust the current over time, in the beginning the current each LED sees is very low and during the 50.000 hours we increase the current 25% to ensure that a Lopolight has the same high brightness over the full 50000 hours. http://www.lopolight.com/ /H8jer |
