The Norwegian Handicap Rating system (LYS) seem to have made up their mind that there is a difference of 100mm on the "J" measurement from the 341 to the 342. They maintain that on the 341; J=3910mm and on the 342 J=3820mm. As far as I have been able to find out this is not correct, they should have approximate the same value, being 3820mm.
In addition they have given the 342 a standard weight of 5100kg and the 341 a weight of 5400kg. From the five boats actually weighed in Denmark making up their standard, the weight has been set to 5720kg (based on the average of those five boats) in addition the 341 which is not "standard" in the Danish system is in the very close neighborhood of that, which make sense to me (even if not obvious the LYS committee)

Does anyone have any insight into this??

Hi Tricky

I have absolutely no insight into this, but a standard weight of 5100 kg for the 342 is most likely underestimated. As for the rigging of the 342 and the 341 they should be identical. However, in the database of the Danish Sailing Association you can find almost similar variation on the measurements of the rigging - including the "J" measure.

Maybe you have been blessed with particularly light and race fit 342s in NorwayLOL
