Can anyone tell me how to put an outboard motor mount on the rails of my 508? All the ones I have found require a horizontal and vertical rail ... such as:

Hi Jack,
The horizontal rail carries the weight so the bracket fits across that.  The vertical rail is one you can make up from a canopy rail bracket clamped to the lower rail, a coupling and a length of rail cut to the distance between the rail below and the inside of the mounting plate.  This stops the bracket from twisting backwards and forwards and holds it securely to take the weight of the outboard.  You can position the bracket along the rail wherever is most convenient and then lock it in that place with the vertical attached to the lower rail at that point

It doesn't need to be joined to the top rail as in a T piece, it just needs to fit sufficiently far inside the bottom hole in the plate to stop backwards and forwards or sideways movement.  The mounting plate can be either teak or some Polly plastic.

Hi, we have a Plastimo outboard bracket, as per the photo below, it comes with its own vertical tube that the two sides clamp over. Works fine for our 6 hp outboard
All the best
