I have a 3 year old 588 and am considering painting the hull this winter with a dark color. I had some issues with that on my last boat and was wondering if anyone out there had any comments. Specifically, the dark paint caused the hull to heat up in the sun. This resulted in some post curing of the gelcoat and a fair amount of “print through” of the glass cloth showing up on the finish.  This is not uncommon on some hulls. Also, the interior temperature of the boat was higher. The hull was noticeably warm to the touch on the inside. So, depending on the lay up techniques used on the build, print through may not be an issue with Hanse.  Also, the 588 /575 has a cored hull which may insulate the interior from the heat build up.  Any thoughts out there ?? Rick ?

If I was on the equator,  or in the tropics for most of the time,  I might think about a different color.  In the higher latitudes,  I don't think its an issue.  Even down South, however, there is no shortage of dark hulled boats.

"Print thru" tends to be related to the quality of the paint job,  not the hull color.     A decent paint job will have multiple coats of primer and multiple coats of AWLGRIP or some paint.

Interesting tidbit:   I remember reading a book on the development of the SR71 spy plane.    It was called the "Blackbird" because of its black paint.   They used black because they wanted to dissipate the heat of an aircraft traveling at Mach 3.    Not because it was a conductor of heat.

I have a bunch of pictures of our boat being painted by Bristol Marine.   Let me know if you want to see them.

I've not had any issues.       Not sure what color you are thinking of,  but....
