Star The port winches is like this on all the 370`s And you shuld have noticed this before buing the boat, or orderd another sprayhood. I did on my 370. The winches are fastend in a alu plate in the GRP and cannot be moved. Do not spend mony on a lawyer, buy a short winch-handel that will solve your problem.

God luck

I am now aware of the fact that this is the same for all 370's.

This means that the dealer was aware of this when I bought the boat, my position is then that he should have made me aware of this.

The sprayhood is delivered from the Hanse factory.

I am meeting with my lawyer next week to have his feedback, if he means that I have a fair chanse in court then this is where it will end

Wink I still think this is a waste of money, and the sprayhood is not deliverd by the yard, but from Wendel& Rados. I orderd mine from a local dealer and have no problems at all.
Bare in mind that sailors around the world have different needs. The yard can olely build the boat in one standard, and they do.

If this is a problem only with the W&R Sprayhood it means that the dealer knew that they sold me a sprayhood that could not be used with the 370.

Have you tried a short-handled winch handle?  Works for us.

I agree with you Oddmund.
The point is that we bought the boats with the sprayhood from Nelson Marine (norw. dealer), not the yard or W&R.
According to norwegian law, we can claim the dealer for failures on the product delivered.
If it was not so, the dealer could ask us to claim the yard, and the yard could refer to all their suppliers (Simrad, Jefa, GPR-factories, Selden and so)

Colin:
A shorter handle works for you, but are you complete satisfied with that? It will absolutely be an easy solution for this problem, but wouldn't that make the use of the winch less powerful?

We have the same Problem. As the sailmaker was on the boat to size the sprayhood I told him I would like to have enough space to turn the winches completely. He told me this is not a problem but then he must built a bulky sprayhood that won't look very good. I discussed that with my "boss" and we agreed it would be better to have a better looking sprayhood.

For what do we need the winch? The sheets we have on the backmost winches. So we need the winches on the roof mainly for tightening the halyards and for the reefs. And that works fine if you have only 3/4 of the round of the winch. What we do need now is a longer handle to have more power at the heavy winch speed.

The Sprayhood follows the line of the boat

You should all be aware that W&R operate on the Hanse property and is the Hanse Yard's representative for Yacht accesories. The only one.
They are also listed on the Hanse Yard homepage and even though they are two different legal entities the are "hand-in-glove" in this context.

Personall I think that the root cause most likely is an engineering mistake. To change the mold is quite costly and my guess is that they(the yard) have calculated that most customers will not complain to much over this.

As long as the dealers refuse to pay for a fix and no-one drag's the dealers to court then they do get away with it pretty easy. This is off cource pure speculation but Im working in an manufacuring facility so it's not to complicated to guess why this has not been changed at the factory side if it has been a known fact since the 370 was launched.

It is indeed as Ralf says - it is whan the wind blows hard that this becomes a problem

@Ralf, well i have a sprayhood where both Standartwinchhandles work 360°. And i think it looks nice the boat with the sprayhood.
look here:

BTW: If you sail with a genoa or a gennaker you need the front winch on port for the mainsheet!

BTW2: Usually all winches work clockwise, so the port winch has to be mounted on a little diffrent position to the other one.

Blake could you upload a picture of the port winch + measure the lengt of the winch handle + measure the distance from the hatch/edges to both winches?

Blake what hull #number is your 370?
