Hi,

IMHO maximizing the benefits from a contract or legal situation (by asking compensation or boat improvements )is OK! and in some cultures completely normal. But turning our life to miserable or an otherwise good boat to a harassment instead of a pleasure, just because we have to relocate the leg of the spray hood or do some other small change is not fair to us. Whoever byes a boat has to be warned that boats are one century behind cars in design and manufacturing and the owner is called to solve small or even big problems by himself, sometimes even to save his life, as sailors who lost the keel or the rudder know very well.

Absolutely agree Panos.

For me, and I suspect many others, a large part of the enjoyment is taking the basic boat (and it is basic in many respects!) delivered by the factory and adjusting it, modifying it and adding to it to make it exactly how I want it so that it works brilliantly for the sort of sailing I do.

I reckon it take at least two seasons to get a boat right.

Me on my Hanse 400 did not ask the Hanse sprayhood . My wife and myself are both under 1m70 and I preferred a small streamlined sprayhood . I asked Toessein who wanted me on board whilst measuring and for discussion. Because of the distance this was not always possible so he put a mould ( model ) and with that form of matrix / tube I saw there was a potential problem which I discussed with him ( he did not think about a small or a large handle but wanted anyway the small one turning fully 360° ) .Finally I have a very streamlined hood fixed as in the photos on top where I can use the supplied handles .
Finally
