Dear all,
I am one of the Owners who find a Way together with Hanse to solve the Problems with the different shape of Windows (in the Deck and in the Hull)!! I guess the Invitation to Hanse to discuss these Item together with responsible and carefull Owners will get no Feedback from their Side, because they may have a Limitation on that Side by their Management!! One Reason could be that their Insurance will not pay anything, if they are open on our Discussion!?! On the other handside, I believe that these Forum and their Menbers have the only Goal to create less Challenges and a better Way for the Hanseyard in their R&d as well in their Reliability!! So, please if any Hanse Employee or responsible Dealer are reading this Sentence give us a kind of an Answer to our Questions'!!!!!! |

If I was you I would go for natural glas (glas / film / glas). If you glue that in (like they did with the plexi) your problem is solved! A good glas company can supply you with that even with a black masking where the glue will be. Looks great and last for ever!
The problem is that the plexi has still some release agent in the material (from the production process when it is not extruded plexi) which gets out during the time esp. with heat. That causes the glue to fail! An other option is to clean the old plexis, put them in the oven with 50°C for 12h and put them in again with the proper preparation and proper glue. Your problem is also solved then. BR Thomas

I have checked with Germanischer Lloyd about defect portholes as a safety st sea issue, but they only gave me the following reply:
Dear Mr. Ericksson, Thank you for your e-mail below. Naturally we pay utmost attention to the safety of any GL certified products. However, kindly note that we are not aware of general “safety at sea” issues regarding Hanse Yachts boat types. As we have already advised, GL has conducted prototype examinations of several Hanse Yachts boat types according to the regulations of the Recreational Craft Directive. Please contact your local retailer or Hanse Yachts directly if you think that your boat shows a defect or is not conform to the respective rules and regulations. Best Regards Dirk Brügge Dipl.-Ing. Hi Jon B,
Do you also have cracks around the hull portholes? At Prima Donna a 470e, hull # 84, we have cracks around all portholes and also at the bow and some other places. I see the cracks as signs of structural problems of the hull, whereas Hanse claim they are non structural. My local shipyard is currently grinding the cracks (and shifting portholes and we will soon see how many of them are caused by a crack in the underlying laminate. Totally unacceptable anyhow, and it will cause significant costs to rectify, since after repair the whole boat has to be repainted. |

In my 2007 hanse 470e I have also discovered tiny cracks running out from the corner of every hull window. The cracks are tiny "hairline" cracks in the gelcoat, most only 1-2 cm long. They are so small that I only noticed them when polishing the hull in september. The front port hull window has longer (10 cm) cracks and quite worringly the window takes in water.
I suspect and hope it is not structural as they all looks like cracks in the gelcoat only. I hope to hear the conclusion of you findings after you have opened up the gelcoat and checked the laminate. |

Creeping Crack Cure by Captain Tolley, is very good for gelcoat cracks. I also use it around the external seals or frames to windows as part of my seasonal maintenance.

David,
I'm not sure I have seen some but will have a closer look next time. Let me know how you get on and any photographs of what lies beneath
