For various reasons I have decided to change the galley tap on my boat. One reason was that it had come loose and another that I wanted a higher tap so that I could pour water in bottles even with the sink filled with washing-up-to-do. Here's the result. Nice job Johan, Is this the normal kitchen size or the smaller variety they normally fit to boats? Also does this allow the water to run into the sink in the middle rather than at the back as on the original? I've fitted new ceramic quarter turn heads on my original units in the galley and heads but I now wish I had fitted a new unit as you have it looks very swish and most likely works a lot better. ------------- Cheers, Rob "Blue Horizon" Hanse 341#113 Portsmouth Harbour UK |

Much to my surprise, I did not have to consider hose sizes etc. I just had to pick the sexiest tap in the kitchen shop and replace the original one. It was fifteen minutes of work which suited a non-handy man like myself very well. The tap is centered over the sink so the water runs in the sink in the middle. I feared that there would be some splash with the taller but tap but there isn't. All in all, a higher quality tap like this one just means higher quality overall. I know this is going to be a bit silly, but I am so happy for my birthday present I cannot help myself posting a picture of the kitchen knives I got from my father. Together with the new tap they make Emilia a POSH ship.  The make of the knives is Hackman and if you are Finnish you will recognise this make. Since I am insulating my fridge by spraying foam around the box (see thread about it http://www.myhanse.com/reduce-compressor-running-time-with-up-to-50_topic5008_page4.html" rel="nofollow - here , I have had to move the sea water tap. Otherwise the underside of the tap and the hose would be inaccessible and covered with foam. I thought of using the same tap that came with the boat but went with a more posh model. All I can say I regret not doing this before! I used to hate my life when I filled the sink with water using the foot pump (remember I used to live full time on my boat so we're talking every time I was doing the washing up!). The new tap allows for so much faster filling the sink, and also, the now position allows for filling both sinks. The previous position only allow the right sink to be filled. I think it looks good together with the new fresh water tap which was the original subject of this thread. Re-reading this thread I realise I might not have answered your question properly. Yes, I went for the normal kitchen size so I had a large selection to chose from. Here is a picture of the old tap. It requires a 20 mm hole but the yard used a 26 mm drill. The consequence, in combination with the low quality of the plastic nut, is that for the last 12 years (essentially the time I have had my boat) it has been loose. It has been annoying me all this time but that is now history. The problem now is to get rid of this hole. I am out of ideas so could anyone give any advice, please? Put a rubber stopper in/on it. When guests ask what it is, say it’s for the dishwasher and suggest they press it. When they do, pass them the dishwashing liquid and tea towel ------------- Alesea Hanse 505 NZL9464 |

Stuart, if you followed my thread "Emilia on the move" you will know that there has been some big changes in my life. After having lived full time on my boat for four and a half years I have moved into a house so I have decided to give Emilia the extra care this season. I have removed all the stuff that does not belong on a boat (I will no longer sail with ice skates in the aft locker in July) and I have made improvements (the fridge being the bigger one) to Emilia so in all fairness I have to admit that I have not found a lot of time sailing.
