hi friends,

my 385 is fitted with the standard Hanse perspex drink holders on the cockpit table, either side of the entranceway to the saloon and on the saloon table.

They can hold a beer bottle, but are too small for a wine bottle or wine glass. I really don't understand why the holes are so small in diameter. I am sure I am not the first with this problem.

Has anyone had experience with coring a larger diameter hole through the perspex? Can you get a nice finish to the edges if you have cored them yourself?

I have not tried to make the holes bigger, but have always been surprised at how shallow the "holders" are. They look nice but are not very useful in most situations. We have had good luck with the Seasucker cup holder (https://www.seasucker.com/collections/cup-holders/products/4-cup-holder-horizontal-mount) - we just stick it down under the dodger and it doesn't move. It is very useful.

The holders aren't too small, what you're trying to put in them is too big! ;)

Seriously though, indeed they aren't huge and they fit beer bottles, standard cans, cups, and the acrylic glasses (tall and short) that we have just fine. Mugs, wine bottles and wine glasses not so much but then wine bottles and glasses are too tall and wont be secure anyway. Guess I've just learned to live with it and select appropriate beverage holders accordingly.

I think that any acrylic sheet workshop will be able to enlarge you hole diameters and flame polish the outer diameter. But as mentioned above, I doubt that it will reliable hold any larger bottles/ glasses.

Is you current holder sufficient to hold stubbies firmly ?

thanks Frank, yes the beer is going down well. I have managed to find some smaller diameter base wine glasses, so I can avoid the modification.

This is the perfect time of year to pick up glasses for the boat. You can spend a fortune and have not much selection by visiting the local marine store OR go to your standard home store and buy glasses appropriate for the home patio which seem to appear this time of year (the beginning of patio season).
