The leech line on my jib seems to have come detached from the head of the sail. I have not had a chance to lower the sail to investigate yet but I can see that the leech line at the head of the main is sewn into the headboard. Is the jib similar? Does anyone know if this is something I can fix myself of will I need a sailmaker?

Hi,
Providing you have a sewing palm, suitable needle and waxed line it should not be too difficult-I carry a kit for my Hanse and also my Etchells as apart frm saving costs there is the aspect of doing something on the spot as part of maintenance issues ( and for those key sailors who race, I don't carry it n my Etchells but is always n the boot of my car)
Any reasonable chandler will stock palm needle and thread - I also keep a set of pliers handy to help pull a needle through if there are many layers- as an aside I also keep a range of sticky back sail cloth on my sewing kit, mainly for spinnakers but also a thicker type for headsail and main jobs. Recently used to do small repair to my infill
Hoe this helps

After getting the sail down it was apparent that the leech line had become unstitched from the head tape of the sail. I had already pulled the loose line about two metres and could not find any way of rethreading this through the sealed pocket it ran in. Fortunately I found a very helpful sailmaker (UK Sails franchise in Enkhuizen) who took the sail in this morning (a busy start of season Saturday) and had it ready for me within the hour at a very modest cost. Although I do carry a sailmakers palm and needles, my dilemma was how to get the line threaded back through the very stiff leech tube.
